Cupscene.com has reported that there may be a chink in the once impregnable armor of Nascar. This comes not long after the rumor that Brian France may be replaced by Jim France. Evidently Lehman Brothers has completed a study determining the value of Nascar and has prepared a prospectus for potential buyers. I wonder if there may be some validity to these recent troubling rumors.

Anyone else have any rumors on the potential sale or othe troubles in Nascar.

My guess is that they would put about 49% of the stock up for sale in an IPO and maintain 51% in the family. The danger in that would be if one of the family members became disgruntled and sold their share to an outsider thereby the family would lose controlling interest.

In any case I don't like the thought of Nascar being sold. Too bad Bill France is still not with us and running things.

The ARCA Re/Max Series will offer a 500-kilometer race at Rockingham Speedway (NC) May 4, 2008.

The three-day race meet will feature ARCA's largest starting field and purse, with a 50-car starting field for the race, which is expected to go 306 laps of the 1,637-meter oval.

The race is set for 12 noon (but probably will be later, especially if Speed wants it for television, where it could be 12:30 or 1).

Way to go Andy. Great to see racing coming back to the Rock even if it isn't Cup. I may scoot on down the road to see the Arca race. I wonder if maybe some of the Nascar veterans will race in it.

ESPN's a bit too repetitive for me. The draft tracks thing has probably been a bit overused now. And the only other thing is the pronounciation of some of the drivers, like david "gilliand" and matt "kesneth" (don't know if anyone else has noticed that or not)

This may give you an indication of how "grass roots" Nascar is in Greensboro , North Carolina where I live. The headline in today's newspaper was about the Petty's moving their operation from Level Cross to Mooresville. Not only the headline of the Sport Page mind you, but also the headline of the Front Page of the newspaper.

http://www.news-record.com/apps/pbcs...STAFF/71107033

The Sport Page had a more in-depth article on the move including an interview with the King.

Its now official that Sam Hornish Jr. will be moving to the Cup next year to drive a third car for Penske.

From Jayski,
Quote:
Sam Hornish Jr. is leaving the IndyCar Series for a full-time ride in NASCAR, joining the mass exodus of open-wheel stars fleeing to America's most popular racing series. The three-time IndyCar champion told The Associated Press he will drive the #77 Dodge next season for Penske Racing with Mobil 1 as the sponsor. "I feel like this is something that is a new and unique challenge for me," Hornish said Thursday. "It may or may not be the right way to look at it, but I feel like I accomplished just about everything in Indy cars. I got to do more than I ever thought I would." Penske will officially introduce Hornish as the third driver for his NASCAR team on Saturday night at the Penske Racing Museum in Phoenix. He'll join a team that already fields cars for #2-Kurt Busch and #12-Ryan Newman. NASCAR rules currently guarantee a starting spot to the top 35 teams in owner points. It leaves just eight spots in the field each week for everyone else, and this season has been a horrendous struggle for many top-name drivers. Penske could ensure Hornish a spot in the field for the first five races of next season by moving the points currently owned by Busch. The 2004 series champion has a provisional that would lock him into the field should he fail to qualify on speed. Hornish said he wasn't sure what Penske will do with the points, and a spokesman for the car owner said he was not available for comment Thursday. Hornish will again try to make his Cup debut this weekend. He's entered in both the Nextel Cup and Busch Series races at Phoenix International Raceway, where he has two wins and three top-five finishes in Indy cars.

Dudley has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
They would be completely retarded not to transfer the points.

A comment from Jeff Gordon on the old North Wilkesboro track:

http://www.news-record.com/apps/pbcs...TAFF/711110355

Gordon misses North Wilkesboro. Not for the atmosphere, but for the track.

It wasn't until the speedway's final race in 1996 that he won there.

"That track challenged me even more than Martinsville did," he said. "I wish some of these guys got to run at North Wilkesboro. These guys, they're always talking about how tough Martinsville is. I'm telling you what, North Wilkesboro was tough. I took a lot of pride that I finally won there.

"That place, I just felt like I was lost every time I went there. I had no clue, and then we won a pole in '95 and that meant a lot to me. Then we went there and won the race in '96. It's always one that stands out in my mind as a great accomplishment."

Robby Gordon finished 5th this year in the Baja 1000. Less than half of the entries usually even finish the race. Robby darn near crashed at the beginning of the race doing some spins for the fans. The Baja is an extremely dangerous race. Robby can really drive that 'Monster". A film clip of Robby in the Baja:

Video of Robby in the Dakar. Robby is really flying in that Monster. Those people near the course are freaking nuts to be that close.

As much as I'd like to see Cup racing return to North Wilks. It not going to happen. There is a guy wanting to buy the track to return some form of racing to the track.

Rockingham managed to be saved to some degree with racing resuming next year. I wouldn't rule North Wilkesboro reopening out.

Correct. Rockingham has at least 2 pretty big races scheduled for next year, one in the ARCA series and one in the Hooters Pro Cup. I will try to attend the ARCA race. I would not be surprised to see a few Cup drivers in the race.

I drove by the North Wilkesboro track recently and it is in pretty bad shape and will require lots of work.
