without wanting to get into too philosophical a discussion, i suspect it's because while you're taking it as being a man vs man sport, unlike most other sports it's actually man & machine & team vs man & machine & team at the "pinnacle". what makes a good driver at say, fford or f3 level won't make a good driver at f1 level.

Greg and Leo will be confirmed this afternoon at Walker Racing for Atlantic. The 2008 equivalent of Seb Hohenthal will be Kevin Lacroix...

Final confirmation that either I'm bonkers or the BRDC is completely out of touch with current motor racing. They have awarded the John Cooper Trophy for a British F3 driver showing potential to be a future F1 World Champion to Greg Mansell.
What about Sam Bird, who was 4th in the points when Mansell was 10th? Even Stephen Jelley (3rd) and Jonathan Kennard (6th), although they do have more experience. |

I have to agree a very strange one. However Greg may yet surprise us and vindicate the BRDC

Was Nigel on the judging panel!? Crackers decision that, Sam Bird was by far and away the best candidate - this is the BRDC though, nothing ever surprises me with them!

(without wanting to open a can of worms) all that does is vindicate unacceptable behaviour really doesn't it?
