1960-61 small bore Formula Class
Greetings,
I am referencing a story about the small bore US Formula classes in Sports Cars Illustrated March 1960 page 52. In the story, the 500cc Club of America's Editor, Mark Brunner describes the 1960 Formula A rules, as established as Supplemental to FIA Formula III. (which, in the US were called Formula A ) ..these rules applied to the under 500cc cars ( Think FIA III - A ) According to Mark “ From our experience with Formula A , we were able to arrive at a starting point for Formula B – the supplement to Formula Junior .” He further set forth the Formula B ( Think FIA F/J - B ) rules, which would class the 501- 1300cc cars that were being built under the FIA F/J . primarily by maintaining a weight per cc rule, as well as various home built and engine homologation rules. Under Article 2 Dimensions, the rule reads “ Until the end of 1960 any car of open-wheel construction, built by an individuals rather than a factory shall be acceptable ie existing specials “ There are 7 Articles to further describe vehicles that are allowed. I am interested in ANY race results or other information from 1960, or 1961 if it exists which show Formula B entrants. I am also interested in GCR Supplements for 1960 and 1961 that include the rules for Formula B In the 1962 GCR's SCCA defined the Specifications for Formula Junior. In 1965 a GCR Supplement defined Formula C for under 1100cc open wheel cars the did not meet the Formula Junior rules. “section D Formula SCCA Class C” Any assistance you can provide, either directly, or by forwarding this to someone who may be able to help, would be greatly appreciated.
