Picture request.

Hi, I am new here, I was wondering if anyone has a picture of the red Volvo 850 that Jim Richards drove in the 1998 australian super touring championship? I had some on my old computer but it is no more. Thanks in advance.

What were they thinking with that 850 - what a shocking looking brick.

The S40 was a fair bit nicer.

Cranker,

I know Im old and becoming senile and the burnt rubber from easternats is rotting my brain, but am pretty sure the 2 litre race you are referring to at Calder was in 95, and it would have been Gary Scott at the wheel of the OVLOV at that time, if my memory serves me correctly, Jeff Allam was driving the lone Ross palmer Motorsport Mondeo (post Hansford) and Teddy Yip from Hong Kong had Bruno Giacomelli in an Alfa 164. Not that it mattered, Paul Morris in the Diet Coke BMW drove away from everyone till he backed off to make it look like a race.

newsstalker, Im willing to bet, if you looked up your files, you would find results for it????? Not sure if natsoft would go back that far

You're both wrong. Morris wasn't even there, no factory BMW's, and only one Audi, and Alfa 164's never raced in Australia. Maybe you're thinking of Hong Kong racer Albert Poon who brought his two Ford Mondeos to Australia for himself (which he crashed heavily at PI) and a guest driver to race in 1997. Gianfranco Brancatelli drove the other car at Phillip Island and South African Mike Briggs drove the car at Oran Park, then they packed up for home.

The results were as follows.

November 25, 1995
TAC Brock Classic - Super Touring Race 1
1. #18 Brad Jones Audi 80 Quattro
2. #77 Jim Richards Ford Mondeo
3. #34 Steven Richards Alfa Romeo 155TS

5. #4 Cameron McLean BMW 318i
6. #66 Les May BMW M3

TAC Brock Classic - Super Touring Race 2

Thanks Falc & NAC.

Now can either of you remember if Jim ever drove the blue & white OVLOV Wagon, at Calder, or should I just give up now......

Oh, and as a side note, Melinda Price had an engine bay fire in the toyota on the grid of R 1; that's why she was a DNS....

From memory, 'The Legendary Barney' (R.I.P) put the fire out......

.
Just Tony Scott. The wagon only ran in the '94 British series and the '95 Australian series. In '95 Richards only joined late in the series, racing initially the second factory Hyundai that Colin Bond built before jumping into the ex-Jeff Allam/Darren Palmer RPM Mondeo for the final round. In '96 he ran a Vauxhall Cavalier out of his own team racing against The Brock in the red Volvo, but Richo filled in for Brock at Bathurst in '96 when Super Tourers had a support race and HRT demanded 100% on the Commodore.

Richo moved to Volvo full-time in 1997, the team briefly expanded to two cars at seasons end after TWR brought a new car with them for the first Super Touring Bathurstwith Tony Scott returning to drive the ex-Brock car when Richo got the new one.

In 1998 the team upgraded to S40's, expanded to two cars for '99 with the second car going to pay drivers Mark Williamson and Mark Adderton with Cameron McLean having a steer at the final round as a warm-up for Bathurst '99 where McLean famously did not get to drive in the weather shortened event. With no decent BMWs or Audis to race against in 2000, Volvo followed all the other manufacturers and left the series.
