Excuse me rag parade, for smelling so bad and living in the back of the black stump!Like sure I like it down there in the back streets of the city slums!
Like we dont see anyone in suits in the west do we.
Now E.C. has great access with the M4 and M7 situated next to it and plenty of accomadation close by including resorts at penrith & parramatta.
The tracks only downfall at the moment is it is a lousy spectator track but with a large upgrqade could be an awsome track for the drivers and spectators alike. Sure Albert park & Adelaide are great places, but they fall down for spectators as all street or park curcuits do in as you cannot see more than just the section in front of you. That is why Oran Park is so well attended as you can see the whole track from anywhere pn the curcuit.
Sorry Parade but Oran Parkl stinks as well! You know, all those cows farting
in that country air! Maybe we should all just go to the CBD and smell the polution! Yeah much better for you!

Accessable - I guess from the CBD it would only be 1.5 hours battling traffic in the car.
Last time I checked by no means did it take 1.5 hours, and even with heavy heavy traffic is it going to take that long.

How many live in the CBD anyways? The majority of Sydneys population are situated in the suburbs to the west.

most people that live in the city are rich snobs that wouldn't even know V8's existed, i can get from my house (as you all know 10 mins from EC) into the city either via M7/M4 or M7/M2 (depending what part of the city i'm going to) in about 40-50 mins, as D.R.T said most race going fans wouldn't come from the CBD but even if they did you can't say it's that far flung from the CBD and it has easy access get straight on the M4 and head west 90-100 km/h all the way.

If they are going to play with the Eastern Creek circuit, one hopes they only mess around with the second half of the circuit, turn 1 & 2 especially are great as they are.

Still don't see the problem with Eastern Creek as a whole, sure it lacks the atmosphere of Oran Park or Amaroo, but what permanent Grand Prix circuit does???

No F1 race would happen at PI in its current configuration, it would need to be 'chicane-ised' to get it anywhere near FIA standards.

No F1 race would happen at PI in its current configuration, it would need to be 'chicane-ised' to get it anywhere near FIA standards.
There was talk a while back about adding two chicanes to Phillip Island (without impeding on the current layout). These would be on the inside of the Hayshed corner, and the inside just before the entry to the final corner.

The methodology behind having them on the inside of the circuit is that it doesnt create hard tarmac run-off on the outside of any corner - thus making it much safer to still hold the MOTO GP Race there.

So you would end up with a right-left chicane near the entry to the Hayshed corner, and a lef-right-left chicane around where the pit entry starts.

I remember playing the GP3 game years ago, and someone made a add-on Phillip Island circuit, and in it's current format, lap times were around a minute or just over. It would still be a quickish lap with two chicanes (me thinks that an F1 could probably do it in 1:15 or something).

Would it be amazing to have the Australian Grand Prix rotate between 5 street circuits in 5 years - all with portable street lighting.

Perth, Adelaide, Albert Park, Homebush, and Surfers Paradise.
that will be ideal but Bathurst has more change of hosting the GP then that happening

I dont mind Eastern Creek TBH - im not sure about traffice and maybe the Government my have to upgrade/add too public transport to and from the circuit as well as extra carparking.

I dont care where its held or if spectator X doesnt like the circuit the main thing is to keep the F1 GP in Australia

But.. If F1 had one poorly attended event in NSW - would it stay?

You have to remember that Melbourne gets 300,000 over 4 days to the circuit - and the GP still loses $40 Mil a year (naturally offset by the good it brings to the local economy through all the hotels being packed, resturants, etc... )..

Now if you only had 100,000-150,000 attend over 4 days your revenue stream is lower, and Bernie Eccelstone would probably command a higher fee when the contract is due to renewal in 2010. This means that the current $40 mil defict that is arguably only just offset at the moment, would be very hard to offset with reduced attendance and higher fees.

The solution of having it as a "Once-in-every-five-year" novelty event can be possible. We currently have Labor state governments in all states, and a Labor federal government. If all the governments worked together, paid Bernie the higher fee, the novelty event would get "400,000+" over the weekend. The first GP in Melbourne had a weekend crowd over 400,000 and the facilities for the spectator were much worse then they are currently.

In my view, to make a GP work in Australia, you have to aim for a weekend crowd between "400,000-500,000".. which in essense means you need a circuit that can hold over 100,000 on race day.. Could you imagine 100,000 at Eastern Creek?

In it's current format. No. But who knows what the expansion plans involve? No one until they are drawnup and the proposal is complete. Until then, it's all what ifs.

Albert Park gets around 100K on race day now, and thats with 300K combined figures. 400-500K combined would be around 200K on race day and probably 150K on Saturday for qualifying.

Unfortunately it appears that the Premier suffers from a similar disease that some suggest Cocho does, arms folded stubbornness. If ever there was an opportunity to steal one back from Mexico, now is the time. But not at bloody Eastern Creek!!!

Homebush with correct temporary lighting could hold a spectacular F1 Grand Prix on the Saturday Night of a week long motoring festival that could incorporate the GP and V8 Supercars as well as many other racing categories. This way, our European friends would not have to get out of bed until at least mid morning or perhaps even lunchtime to watch the race.

At Homebush, there is sensational public transport that includes trains, buses, Rivercats and ample parking for thousands of cars and is far more appealing to the eye than the Creek. It is also very central to all of Sydney and not just those from the west and less than 15 mins to the CBD and the beauty of Sydney harbour.

The surrounding facilities (Telstra stadium, Show ground, Superdome etc etc) are world class and would be the talk of the Motorsport community around world if properly utilized and provided.

Motor Trade shows, show and shines, Car clubs, Manufacturer demonstrations and displays etc could utilize these facilities coupled with multiple entertainment and attractions would make a truly unique yearly event that could generate millions for the state of N.S.W (and promoters) if done properly.

A bold plan with all bells and whistles put to F1 now given the current TV concerns etc might just get up.

i've come some what acustom to the smell of garbage trucks and tips having been around it for the best part of 12-13 years with my dad working in the industry, in saying that i still notice it but it dosn't worry me as much as others but i do agree it's not something you want to be wofting while at the races, you want the fumes of the cars not the stench of the tip.

Why spend and keep spending all that money to move it 20 km up the road?

You can do all the above at Eastern Creek, for cheaper and also something you overlook, have a positive impact of Aus motorsport for 365 days a year as opposed to 3.

Why wouldnt 100,000 fit around the vast viewing areas at Eastern Creek? With the track extensions as well, this could only expand.

Ah... the Datsun 120Y. The mid 70's fast back beauty that was the car of choice for the fuel crisis aware motorist that would be the future of motoring.

If the Daty does not work out give me a call. I have a pristine, only twice around the clock, no bog Chrysler "Regal" (no valiants here) with cross plys ready to roll for under 10k.

Trust me...

A smiley does not mask your jealousy for my self opinioned free speech DRT. I work in my own business and do not suffer your problem of puppeteers arm up my back. The ARDC have many cronies, just ask them to take turns with you until you find a comfortable one...

Because its 20k closer to the city and unlike the Easter Lemon, it would generate real money and interest. Perhaps it could make the state enough money that they could eventually fix the Creek properly??

I'd take a closer look sometime.

Also where do people get the idea, that Oran Park scores significantly more people? The AVESCO/VESA crowd announcement debacle a few years ago proved this wasnt the case, as much as VESA tried to paint such a scenario.

Also comparing a Grand Prix track to Oran Park is pointless when discussing its merit for holding an F1 race. Do people whinge of about the available viewing at turn 3 at Albert Park, Turn 8 at Adelaide, La Combes at Spa, Turn 4 at China, Turn 8 at Turkey etc.

Baz, quite obviously no one wanted to see v8s or A1 there. There is a huge difference in the quality of the product between F1 and what you have used as supposed comparisons.

Well...with bulk dollars, I am sure you could sculpt a track acceptable to Bernie with the land available at Eastern Creek..however...what do you do about the pong from the garbage dump (not to mention the odd spontaneous combustion )...not really acceptable in F1
