Just imagine them on open wifi and some kid with too much time, could make for an interesting series of corners or start giving Ferraris drive through penalties to balance the field

Hopefully it's just done by a marshal and a switch.

From the original Pitpass article

"Thirty five display panels will be situated around the track. Controlled by hand-held panels operated by officials at each marshals post, they will supplement the traditional flag signals."

Reminds me of the suggestion many years ago of another flag, the pink flag, to alert drivers to the fact that James Hunt was slagging off their driving

I was watching the GP2 race on ITV4 this morning and noticed that a car that retired on the straight at the pit ext was covered by a waved yellow from start lights gantry, 3 waved yellows from the pit wall and a waved green after the expired car before turn 1.

After the green flag was the digiflag showing a yellow panel. There was no incident after the green flag but the digiflag was unable to show where the incident on the pit straight was because they were only at the entrance to a corner.

But wouldn't the point of these digi flags be that there can be more of them located at various points where it might not necessarily be safe or possible to locate a flaggie. Also they are to be used in addition to flaggies.

I haven't seen the incident but it sounds like a mis-use of the digiflag at that point on the circuit
