Phillip Island elevation data
I have been asked if I can locate any vertical elevation data for the Phillip Island track - preferably down to approx 1 metre resolution.
The information needs to try and show elevations between T12 and T2, T2 to T4, Siberia to Lukey Heights etc. If anyone has this type of information can they PM me please? (It's not wanted for car racing btw...) |

The local Lands & titles office should be able to do you a map with contour's on it , add a little bit of work with a GPS and it should be done |

The only maps available are 1:25000 and the intervals are at 10 metres - not close enough.
1200Datto - nope, not HPV's - believe it or not, there are monthly cycle races on the track (they need the one weekend a month to comply with noise requirements - no engines) and I was asked about climbs, drop offs etc. There's a 2 hour bike race this Sat and someone wanted it for that (gearing, food etc). And re Google Earth - I did check it out - it shows Phillip Island as dead flat |

There is a specialist map place in High St Kew in Melbourne. I have maps( of other areas than P.Is) that show contours as they are which I think may be what you are looking for. The maps I have also show land boundaries etc.
It is some years since I purchased ( the contours don't change much !) and this may not be where I got-- but I certainly have purchased maps there. I will check it out when in the area. |

As I mentioned - I have 1:25,000 land maps - the largest scale I can get - but the contours are 10 metres apart which would tend to show the track as 'flat' (well relatively that is )

PI Ops should have proper survey maps from when they rebuilt the track all those years ago as well as the more recent changes.
I've got an aerial photo of the track which is 49Mb in size it looks like it was taken during the Friday practice of the World Supers a couple of years ago and you can almost zoom in on the part number on the engine block of the bikes on the track. Mind you it takes ages for the PC to zoom in or move around due to the file size involved. |

I also have access, via a neighbour, to VHR images - vertical images unfortunately can't help because a) you need at least 2 reference points and b) some form of 3D imaging (not just software) in order to be able to estimate vertical separations. |
