For F3/GT at Rockingham - try contacting Keith Jones who is the Chief Marshal at Rockingham.

Incidentally this meeting was originally scheduled for 3 days (24th/25th/26th May - Sat-Sun-Mon). However Keith has just told me that Sat 24th May has been cancelled - so it is now just Sun 25th and Mon 26th May.

I don't know about Rockingham but the Mallory ones weren't enveloped up in time for today's collection. The next one round here isn't until Monday afternoon so they should be on the doormats Tuesday or Wednesday. Usual Mallory timings both days - sign on from 8am and first practice 9:30am.

Provisional Rockingham timetable here:
http://www.britishgt.com/content/rep...2_Schedule.pdf

Definately subject to change (talk of both Pickup races being Monday, due to them running on t'oval and track changes required)

If thats the case You will probably find the BRSCC has held back with the passes/final instructions - So that everyone knows what the final timetable is.

The timetable Alan has picked up is I believe dated from March

Going by the same meeting last year, I expect Rockingham passes to be sent out round about Wednesday. It's a bit of a joke IMO if you've got a week left till the meeting and the timetable still isn't finalised.

Now where was THAT timetable hidden on the F3/FOTA site?

A much better representation of what might be happening there (still expect Monday morning to switch the VWs & Pickups to reduce the wall change down time)

Edit: May just be me, but having seen it once, I can't get it to load again now.

Ok Silly question coming up (having not done and "Oval" yet)

At Rockingham I assume (??) that the Pick-ups are the American type ones running on the oval?

If so, as a normal (??) marshal (ie BMMC/BRDC), do I get to marshal this directly or does it need "specialised" marshals?

Assuming it has special marshals - I guess we get to sit in the infield and watch in awe as these motors thunder around the oval - is that right?

TT, there's an unwritten rule about marshalling ... there's no such thing as a silly question it means someone hasn't given you the answer yet to a valid point.

The Pick Up trucks are similiar to the Craftsman Trucks in the States but are a one off design created by Sonny Howard of SHP Racing. Google "pickuptruckracing"

Quote:
First launched in 1997, the Pickup series is for purpose built 230bhp racing specials. A tubular spaceframe chassis follows well-proven SHP Motorsport principles and the racers are pushed along by a 2 litre multi-valve twin-cam engine. Weighing in at just 900kg, these dramatic machines place the emphasis firmly on driver ability.
They produce 230bhp and average lap times ( low 40secs) around the 1.5 mile oval are 130mph.

Oval observing is not specialised but it does need to have a degree of experience and awareness. As you are within a very few feet of the trucks up against the wall when things go wrong they go wrong very quickly and very close so never turn your back on the oncoming traffic and ignore anything that happens past your shoulder, don't follow the incident round. Newcomers are encouraged to join the experienced observers on the posts and where headsets are available to plug into the land line system and listen in to the unique reporting system; its basically a running commentary between the oval posts, the gantry and race control on an open line so everyone can hear what is going on and be aware of incidents/observations. If you cannot get teamed up on an oval post then either join the crew in the pit lane or watch the racing from the garage roof area.

Look me up when you get there and we'll see what can be arranged. The grey haired ole git with a matching beard.

Thanks Chigley - I will try to do that and look you up.

I am on the list for this meeting but not sure quite where I'll be posted yet(probably on the bank on the infield somewhere) for the F3/GT VW and Fords.

I was sort of assuming that the pick-ups (seen them on telly) would do the oval and that we (on the infield) probably wouldn't be involved in that particular aspect.

Cheers

They've changed it then, as the GT site linked to the outdated one I posted. Roys link was from the FOTA/F3 site, but I couldn't find a link to that anywhere. No matter, it'll all be right by Sunday morning...

Well, it's Saturday and I have not receied any tickets or instructions for Rockingham. I have tried to contact Keith at the BRSCC to ask for advice without any luck so far. I haven't marshalled at Rockingham before so I have no idea where or when to sign on, or if I will even get past security.

Any ideas?

First thing to make things easier drive into the circuit wearing probans. Follow the road down past the security gate (they won't even question you let alone look at you) to the blue Rockingham buildings on the left hand side, then take the right junction signposted Outer Paddock, attempt to get in there, wearing probbies should make it easy. If not park just outside the Outer Paddock gates and look for the mini bus that will be taking everyone else in to sign on in Garage 12 at 08:45 - 09:15. The driver of the mini bus and/or any of the guys in it should have spare tickets in case jobs-worth decide to be awkward.
