What would be the effect of too much pinion angle?
I just checked the pinion angle on my Rear Wheel Drive car and it was at 5 degrees instead of the recommended race setting of about 2 to 2.5. According to Spohn Racing too much pinion angle would cause bind on the third gen Camaro and the car rattles and shakes like hell when I pull away slowish, just wondered if anyone else had any experience of pinion angles and there effects on handling etc and whether this may help with the problem.

You mean diff pinion angle ? Are these things still live axle, thought the camaro would be IRS by now ?

No way live axle of course, we are talking yanks here, still has a steering box as well 5 degrees negative pinion angle (dipping down 5 degrees in relation to prop shaft or was now 2 degrees! Funny you should say that though as I was just watching Top Gear and they had a brief thing on the long awaited new Retro Camaro and that will have IRS apparently (basically a Holden chassis).

The biggest bind in the camaro w/too much pinion angle is in the u-joints, particularly the rear. At low speeds you are actually feeling the u-joint bind/release.

The joint doesn't bind up, it speed up and slows down through its rotation when moved from being lined up so 2.5 is a good limit for a race car excessive deflection usually will probably lead to faiure of the joint . At 5deg ,have you looked at all other possible things like centre mounting ,if it has one, clutch plate, gearbox mountings etc

No there is not a problem, I have an Steve Spohn adjustable torque arm but I must have set it up wrong as it was way out when I checked it the other day, it was a breeze to alter it. I will find out if its any better this weekend.

al that adjustable torque arm is there for a good reason ,if you need a good dig in pull away you would have 2-2.5 neg but that may give a little under steer and up to 1.5 deg pos would give an oversteer situation as the pinion trys to cimb the crown wheel.the oval hot rod boys have been doing this for years..
