Ford AX blocks
Hi all you techies out there. Not sure if this is the right spot but here goes.
Does anybody know anything about the Ford AXblock used on crossflows? In particular what do the code numbers denote? I have a block that has the following codes : 31K 95 AX 831C 6015 R34 I have seen other blocks which all have the 'AX' '831C' '6015' and 'R34' but the first numbers differ. Do these first numbers denote bore wall thickness or ability to take a large bore? Any info would be gratefully received. |

we run an AX block in our car at significantly more than an 85mm bore
i had always understood that the AX block is a 711m block actually used for diesel engines in South Africa infact, i think the person who told me that was the chap who wrote the article in Gordon's link - I know him well and he's done a lot of work on our car |

They always used to be "the" block for ff,I had one in a 1600e many yers ago,it was the type "A" which aledgedly was heavey duty.

The sierra in SA had an 1800 crossflow of sorts, but they're getting scarce now
if you don't need push rod holes try a sierra 1,8 diesel from a UK scrappy, a bit of fiddling with front and rear covers but essentially the same apparently, bullet proof end caps as standard as well, could easily get an 82-4mm crank in as well |
