I have to admit I don't follow American bike racing but those articles seem frighteningly like CART / IRL from a few years ago.

Without wishing to over simplify the problem.... what's happening over there? Surely it can't be hard to run a series identical to WSBK but based in the US??

John Ulrich has it right. Read the latest breaking news. The reality is that Ray Blank and his Suzuki counterpart were the movers and shakers when the AMA tried to steal Edmondson's series. I assisted Roger with the case (I wasn't counsel of record, but did have some imput). Roger got millions from the AMA. Blank, et al haven't forgotten, and are basing their refusal to race with him on made up comments. Roger has offered them everything they wanted (you can see that on RR's Breaking News Section), but they continue to refuse. MIC has dissenters in the mix, so don't count on that series getting off the ground any time soon.

Just remember, Edmondson isn't the principal in the DMG. It's the France family, and they do control some of the best tracking in the US, and just might have a say as to which tracks get NASCAR races. I'd say they have a little HP.

I'd bet on Roger.

I occasionally watch bike racing but really can't tell much between some of the races I've seen, seems like bikes sometimes get the short end of the quality stick in their coverage. But what would the hold up be in using a world superbike rulesbook in a NA/US series? I assume the major players in the AMA are also involved in the rulesmaking for superbike and so would have already tried to skew the rules in their favor. And if the world rules are used could it help bring top level teams in for one-off races in big events?

On a side, can anybody explain MotoGP vs World superbikes vs AMA (Daytona bikes, correct?)

Sure:

MotoGP is the equivalent of F1. The bikes are specially built, weight about 350#s, have 800ccs, and make over 200HP. They are ridden by the best riders in the world, usually, ex-national champs, ex-world superbike champs, etc.

World Superbikes are production based bikes, with limited modifications. They are 1000ccs, and make about 220 HP, weigh about 400#, and are ridden by very, very good riders, sometimes older MotoGP riders, national champs, etc. They are also a spec tire series, and they all run the same tires, or similar tires from the same brand.

US Superbikes are similar to World Superbike, but have fewer modifications, and make a little less HP than the world equivalent. The US riders used to be the best in the world, but have fallen down a notch or two over the last decade, however, the current crop are more than decent, and one of them, Ben Spies will be riding World Superbike next year.

The DMG series will showcase the 600 class. That is being done because a good many of the tracks in the USA do not comply with the European Safety rules, and are essentially unsafe for the larger bikes. An example would be Daytona, where the 200 has been restricted to the 600 class, because tires were failing, and nobody wants a tire failure at 200 mph.

Hope this thumbnail sketch works for you.
