Okay, "here goes nothing" as they say, and I think I indeed just have:
Ferrari- Raikkonen Massa to dig a bit deeper and produce some top races, but also be back to his erratic ways trying to catch Kimi. BMW- Kubica I'm going to stick my neck out and say his potential will be realised versus Heidfeld. Heidfeld will probably be more consistently quick though. Renault-Alonso Well, Piquet's not allowed to beat him is he? This comment from Alonso, when asked how they're getting along, is rather suggestive to me: "He seems to be a normal guy who is happy to be racing in Formula One." http://www.formula1.com/news/intervi...08/2/7407.html i.e. He's happy to be here and wouldn't think of insisting on such a crazy thing as the right to beat his team-mate. I don't think Piquet will take that lying down, but he obviously has no choice. Williams- Rosberg Easily. Red Bull- Webber He is the quicker driver though few here appear to see that. Toyota- More or less equal That's not to say they'll be consistently close at most tracks. I think there will be quite large disparities at times, and the advantage will swing both ways. Toro Rosso- Bourdais Blimey, this one's hard. Numerous European drivers have struggled with F1 on their return from racing in America, but Bourdais could just succeed. Honda- Button Super Aguri- Davidson My arse has been hurting from sitting on the fence here for a while, but I'm going to say Davidson. I think he is overall marginally the better driver. Force India- Fisichella McLaren- Hamilton |

It's time to read through and go at our predictions.
It's notable how few (if any) picked Massa to beat Raikkonen, and that most tipped Heidfeld over the already well-rated Kubica, with Heidfeld's reputation as a consistent points scorer the element which probably swung this one. |

Mine featured the odd bit of accuracy amid a sea of total bobbins.

Getting less than 5/10 is probably just bad luck. (For the record, I too scored 5/10) |

It's funny, sometimes we can predict things down to a tee, sometimes the seemingly obvious doesn't happen!
Raikkonen v Massa over the last 2 seasons as case in point and, arguably Fernando v Lewis last year. So called talent experts might have had a hunch things would go the way they did but most people would have plumped for Kimi and Fernando over their respective teammates every time...... Funny old game. |

We tend to believe that people are static and can't change or improve... that's the very opposite.

I'm not quite brave enough to extend that argument and give Piquet the benefit of the doubt though - its hard to see him ever coming good! |

Oh, regarding Piquet, I have the same opinion, though it was quite funny (now) to watch the 1979 review yesterday, and seeing his father rated as a young promise. I can remember I didn't quite rate him as a future champion among all those fantastic drivers. It was his first full season, the year before he did only 5 races, as a Brabham second driver with Lauda as the first. He had a hard season, with crashes and mech failures along 11 out of 15 races, and only 3 points. Still Bernie and Gordon Murray would put money to bet on him - literally speaking by Bernie's testimony - and that certainly payed off. So who knows, maybe... |
