Where to start as a bike Marshal

Hi Everyone

I am a qualified marshal from South Africa who has permanently re-located to the UK. I love marshaling bikes (have done 3 MotoGP's, 6 hr Indurance Race , National Superbikes & International MotoX in South Africa) and cars. I have signed up with BARC but have been told I need to sign up to be a Bike Marshal as well with a Bike club. My home circuit is Thruxton. Can anyone advise on which is the nearest/best Bike marshaling club to join?

Thanks

Hi Suzee & welcome to the UK & Ten Tenths. Happy New Year by the way.

As Dave has linked there is a bit of info in the that thread but if you want to chat about bike marshaling in the UK then by all means PM or e-mail me.Links are in my profile page.

GWAR & Gachjoel also "do" a lot of club bike meetings, more than me TBH as I mainly do BSB for my bike fix, & I'm sure that they will give you any advice or help that you want as well. I know they helped me out a lot when I started bikes. Hopefully here from you soon.

Col

Hello suzeeM, happy new year to you...
My local circuit is also thruxton....5 mins away......you are welcome to come round our house (mine and wendys) one evening or day time...or meet up for a coffee to talk...allways welcome....Just send pm
We have the complete list of bike events thru out the uk...and are doing at least 3 weekends a month from march onwards...all over the uk / holland/ireland...this year including....clubbies, moto gp,WSBK, NW200,BSBK....and quite a few car events......(to much choice..not enough time....welcome to the uk... )
There are a lot of different clubs nowadays doing bikes....and theres not enough space on here to go thru it.......politics.
Were in only 3 clubs.....and get to do virtually any racing we want....
Hope that helps........just pm...cheers tony.

Thanks everyone for your warm welcome notes and advice. It seems to be pretty complicated so for this year at least I think I'll stick to cars and get settled in and try again for next year. If all else fails I'll go back to SA for the WSB event and marshal that!!! :-)

suzeem - its not that complicated really, unless it is bsb and wsb that you want to marshal, that is racesafe domain and they have their own systems and ideas.

if you want to get into club racing, just choose which circuit and which dates you would like to do, then contact the chief marshal for that club and they will arrange for tickets etc for you to turn up and marshal. easy peasy. not many clubs will turn you away and they can always do with extra hands.

if you want to go and do a training day then plenty of clubs will be having theirs coming up very soon, you need to have a look at the relevant websites for details.

Bemsee have theirs at brands hatch on the 21/22 feb. contact the chief marshal via their website.

you do not need to join any club to marshal.

As of this year ACU are doing WSBK (DONNINGTON) and also MOTO GP.
Unless WSBK re-instated at brands then it will be racesafe........POLITICS

Can I be cheeky & ask who your contact for the Moto Gp & WSBK at Donny is? Just wondering if it's the same as mine as I heard "politics" could be entering that domian as well. PM prob best as it being public etc etc.
