Electric Power-steer pumps

Does anyone know what electric power-steer pumps are used on big tyred high down force cars eg LMP or GT le-mans and where to get them. I am after something in with about 1300psi. I know the BTCC cars used them not sure those had enough pressure though.

I'd be very interested in these as well, but what kind of additional draw would that place on the electrical system however. And how might one make up for it(higher alt. rating maybe?)

Hi Chev

I've looked around online and come up with a few articles to start off with:

http://www.evalbum.com/tech/mr2_powersteering.html

http://www.bba-reman.com/content.asp...power_steering

Looks like the pump duty will have to be somehow tied to a speed sensor?

I know the 2 BTCC cars I worked on just had a switch on the dash to turn the pump on and off. one of the cars was an ex works Nissan primera and the pump in that was similar to the 96-98 Renault Clio pump on the above link.

Hmm, would you know the kind if line that was used in the electrical setup(if the pump and reservior were relocated, that is) I'm still looking for an electrical pump that will do the job, but haven't had much luck with it. if they used Speedflows with the alloy piping it shouldn't be much of an issue to relocate everything.

Yeah from memory they Nissan had the pump behind the rear seat fire wall and had hard line to the front. I replace all the hard line on my racks (From the servo to the ram) with Speedflow -6 teflon bradded and -6 an alloy fittings never had an issue yet unlike the factory steel hardline that cracks and all my pump to rack pressure lines are just -6 rubber steel bradded XRP or aeroquip.

The guy who does the kits i fit in Mk1/2 escorts use the Vauxhall Corsa EPAS and he changes the column ends and electrickery box for around £500 all in, leaving me just the job of mounting it or he can supply a braket to bolt directly into a standard escort.
I can give you his number if you pm me

System fitted to a Mk2 racecar

I also fit lots of these units into many autotest cars (mainly minis) I get them straight from the breakers yard (£100) and run them with the standard ecu no mods!!
