Green Racing GT Challenge
Scott Atherton recently had a lot to say about Green Racing and there is an interesting video on the ALMS website. Atherton claims their Green Challenge goes to the winner going furthest, fastest and with the smallest environmental impact
It prompted me to return perhaps to a theme we had a couple of years ago I think on how does motorsport develop what Atherton says is the real challange for motorsport in the 21st century? GT cars are a suitable basis and we now have all types available to the enthusiast with petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric cars all for sale. How would it be to have a race, or a series of races, say 1000 miles or km or more where the basic requirement is a road legal GT car with a minimum weight set and maximum power output measured at the wheels but otherwise more or less free regulations, perhaps a maximum road car size fuel tank, say 70 lrs or something as much for safety as anything. Electric cars could have changeable batteries if required as recharging from the mains would be impossible The winner is the first past the post, any number of pit stops, free tyres and so on. Would this be as relevant, as Atherton says, to motoring today as the original forms of racing were 100 years ago? |

I think it is very dangerous for any entity to hitch themselves so closely to a political movement; relevant or not.

ACO style racing already rewards fuel efficiency without any gimmicks. At the 24 hour of Le Mans better fuel economy will allow a race team to make less pit stops over the 24 hours, even 10/12 hour races can give a fuel efficient team 1 less pit stop. And lower fuel consumption can also play a role in the ALMS sprints as it gives you more luck with the yellows and pit stops.

Also the ACO works herself in ever more strange angle's just to please their greenie political friends. Trying to choke the noise of the cars is another frustrating example of this... |
