Pre-Qualifying last took place at the Hungarian Grand Prix in '92, after which Brabham and Andrea Moda left the sport removing the need. Even then, there were a number of entrants that failed to qualify for the race, with the last event when the number of entrants exceeded the number of starters being the '94 Australian Grand Prix. Whilst the numbers may change, pre-qualifying will only be required if the number of entrants exceeds the numbers permitted on the track licence or that can be accomodated in the pits. Therefore, I don't think it would be required as this figure would be higer than the 26 cars currently envisaged.

Didn't we lose Spa in 2006 because their pits didn't have enough room for Super Aguri? This could happen again with other tracks if this idea goes though. I'd like to see it happen, just not at the expense of some classic circuits again...

Spa allowed 36 F3000 cars in 1998, about 30 started the race. Can't see why not they might not adapt the circuit to more cars.

That's my golden dream. IMHO if more entries are, the champion has more entity, beating most rivals than usual.

Agreed. Even Bernie said he'd love to have Pre Qualifying again. I just think it adds that extra bit of excitement!!

Satorian has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Prequalifying is a pretty bad idea and financially probably not viable for the teams. What kind of sponsors are you supposed to attract if you can't promise at least being on the race grid? Prequalifying is a losing proposition for the teams. It would only serve to fill Bernie's and CVC's coffers.

Hmmm, even more money for Bernie. I wonder why he'd like to see the return of pre-qualifying?

So. Medals. Did anyone notice that we had cars squabbling over 2 points at the end of the race? Doesn't this show much we don't need medals?

It could be argued the "medals" would make the desire to both gain a position and defend a position increase.

In the end, drivers and teams are going to try and move up the race order irrespective of the system (providing it adheres to the principle of higher position=higher reward).

It shows neither "medals" are needed nor unneeded. All it shows is that drivers and teams want to move up the race order.

26 cars...hmmmmm lets see if Bernie can back that up

Qualifying would be very interesting Q1 cut 8, Q2 cut 8 leaving 10 for the pole shoot out.

more back markers at pass in the race too.

Guess it will be like in the old days.

I think it'd be better if they cut 6 after Q1 and Q2, leaving us with 14 for the shoot-out. Two cuts of 7, leaving 12 for the shootout, would be OK too.

It would be a shame to not extend the shoot-out number when you have 6 more cars in the field.

Well, that is what Bernie thinks. But with massive opposition from ALL Teams, ALL Drivers (AFAIK) and the vast majority of the F1 fanbase, I think he will find it much harder to get this through than he expects. Pretty much nobody but Bernie wants this, and even the FIA/WSMC vote only passed because they where duped into believing the teams actually agree to that this was a good alternative.
