New Recruiting Team
Hi everyone,
I need your help!!. We have some serious problems in relation to recruiting new trainees and keeping them. I have spoken to some people at Brands over the training weekend and have the backing of Bernard Cotterall if I can get a dedicated team of marshals to form an independant recruiting team. As a team we would have all clubs details and paperwork and advise the new trainee of these clubs and let them choose what they want to join. We would send them the paperwork and get them to fill it all in return it to the team, check it and pass it on to the relevant club. Thus making joining any club a smooth process and be there to answer any questions. I am looking for anyone dedicated that is willing to give up some time to help: Whether you would like to volunteer to guide new marshals, in a BUDDY system. Or if you can help with suggestions on the type of people to aim the recruiting too and help with presentations/ leaflets for this. Or if you have any other suggestions on this to overcome this problem. I would like to start a database of the trainees we look after keeping various details on them and the team looks after them for 1 season. A contact at each circuit that is a team member would be there to welcome and guide them for the procedures/ posts for the day is another idea as well. I would also like to hold bi- monthly meetings amongst our team to discuss what we can do and what direction to take. If you are interested then please send me an e- mail in the first instance to:richard_sneader@hotmail.com Thank you, Richard Sneader... Last edited by Richard Sneader; 26 Feb 2002 at 23:08. |

I used to be the Recruitment Officer for MRMCI but I have now passed the matle to a team of two marshals. I agree that retention is a difficult one to address, marshalling is such a specialised area - it just isn't for everyone.
Recruitment is hard work, but it brings great satisfaction when you see someone really "fitting-in" and you know that it's you who introduced them to this wonderful hobby. Food luck in your endeavours. I've got a few powerpoint presentations that you might be interested in, and some other promo stuff that I've used or had ready to use in the past. They are specifically designed for MRMCI but you're welcome to amend and adjust them for your own uses. Some are bulky, so I wont mail them to you unless you say you want them. In meantime, don't forget to direct any Irish enquiries towards www.mrmci.com |

Richard,
I have already offered my help to Alec Spooner and will be glad to help where possible. Please let me know via e-mail what you have in mind. It's also worth having a look at the MSA website as the report on last years Network Q Rally has been published and there is a great deal said in it about marshals. There is at last a recognition that numbers are falling and there will be advertising material made available to organising clubs for use at meetings. Stephen. Please use stephen3451@hotmail.com for any e-mails. |

Speaking as a new recruit having a team or point of contact can only be a good thing, if it hadn't been for ten tenths and Stephen I wouldn't have bothered to continue to find out how to become a marshal as every avenue I went down was a dead end. The buddy system sounds good, the BMMC have started one up and I will be making use of it when I embark on my first meeting at Snetterton. I hope it all comes together Richard and if you want a news persons perspective on things I am more than willing to volunteer

In my experience, some people can be put off by the thought that they "HAVE" to join a club. Don't forget that at most meetings, all someone has to do to start marshalling is grab the nearest bod in orange (or black), and ask for the Chief Marshal. Only then, after they've hopefully "got-the-bug", should someone explain the benefits of the various clubs.

Crazystu,
we are not going to make anybody join a club but will be there to guide them at the start. Eventually they will have to join one of the clubs to get there MSA grading card. For all those that have mailed me a big thanks and I will mail you all back.( I am on nights this week). Richard... |

Hi Wickedwich,
Thanks for your reply. I would appreciate any advice you may have on the recruiting front and I would be extremely grateful if you could send us the powerpoint and other promo stuff you have as it will give our team a good starting point. If I get any questions on Ireland I will in the first instance pass them on to the Irish marshals club as You have all the answers for out there. If you would like to e- mail me on: richard_sneader@hotmail.com then I will give you my address to send the items. If you would like to be part of the team then let me know. I am coming over to your side of the water this year eithet in July or August depending on Pheonix Park meeting if it goes ahead. Thanks Again, Richard Sneader... Hi Claire,
Thank you for your offer of support to the recruit team. Yes I will pick your brains as it would be usefull to get a trainees point of view on what you thought would have helped when you join. If you would like to mail me on: richard_sneader@hotmail.com and I will give you more info. See you on the 24th at Brands. Rich... |

Guys just a note on recruitment and retention. If you take a look at the Karting thread and what Stevie has to say about how he's been treated by so called experienced marshals - maybe this is something that needs to be addressed too.
