Arrows and Peugeot have made a deal of supplying engines for 2001. Peugeot however retires as a factory team, but it's place will be taken by Asian Motor Technics.
The engines will very likely to be called by some other name than Peugeot. One candinate is Arrows' main sponsor Orange. The deal means that Prost will make a deal with Supertec, to get their customer engines on 2001. You can find this story at www.alphaf1.com!!! What do you think about this????? |

It's turning into 1999 again...
First promised Cosworths, then Supertecs, ending up with nothing. Can it get any worse for Minardi? On the upside... Who says Prost will sign a Supertec deal? And there's still those extra Ferrari engines...  |

Well, the only thing I hope is that this deal will push Arrows forward instead of pulling it backwards!!!

Forget Arrows - they will be ok with their Orange backing.
Minardi are going to be in serious trouble now - no engine, no major sponsor. |

I'm actually not sure Arrows WILL be OK: this years Pug is heavy, underpowered and big (relativly speaking of course). Come next year it'll be thoroughly out of date too. Cosworths would have been better: with a bit of development their reliability and power shortage could be sorted, plus which it's (allegedly) quite small too.
As for Minardi: PLEASE GOD!! |

The Peugeot engineers don't seem to think their enigine is underpowered, they sayd it has 800+ BHP, this year's Supertec only has 790, and that one is also heavy(118 kg), and large.

The engine probably does have about 800+ bhp, it's just that it likely has a very hollow tourque curve.

I expected at this point that people would be rallying to the Minardi cause, but no, they start discussing the bhp of an engine...
Good point - the Peugeot is a naff bit of kit this year, and development by a new company isn't going to do much for 2001. And now... "Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come... Oh dammnit SAVE MINARDI!"

Given that just a few years ago, the Peugeots were touted as the small and powerful wave of the future, its alarming that they failed so convincingly to live up to their promise.
I doubt that they will be any better under a different badge-which also leads to the question of what they will be called. I understand that Arrows' fee for the engines includes naming rights: Orange Arrows-Orange? Orange Arrows-Lost Boys? Orange Arrows-Eurobet? Footworks-Megatron? (Ooops, sorry about that last one  )It seems that the period of time required for a team to adjust to and integrate a new engine takes a serious bite out of their competitiveness for at least the first part of a season. Arrows have put themselves at a distinct disadvantage running since 1995 the following engine packages; Hart, Yamaha, Arrows (Hart), Supertech, and next year AMT (Peugeot). It makes me wonder if all those "Orange" bucks, funnelled into the coffers of the cash poor Brian Hart couldn't produce a competitive engine and offered continuity to the team. |

Apparently Walky's own Arrows/Hart engine programme is still ticking over, just in case. I would agree that I'm surprise they'd would jump in with another new engine though.
