Taken from the main thread: http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...75#post2482975 to develop some discuss. I liked that post and it summed up the (end) of the GT1 class race.
The Corvettes put on a good show. Some little things split the two works cars up a little, but also brought them back together. The Berretta, Gavin and Fassler car falling near the end. Great cars, as usual. |

That wonderful 7.0 L note roaring down mulsanne will be missed. The end of an era! Let's hope the GT2 Vette sounds somewhat similar.

The #63 car seemed to have the edge in the start. But during the night, Magnussen got ill. He never recovered to drive again. With their fastest driver sidelined and the other two working overtime, the #64 car slowly edged into the lead. It should have won, unless struck by terminal failure.
A good show put on by Corvette. Just a shame the final GT1 race was so weak. That Jetalliance ended on the podium so many laps down, proves it is the right time to kill the class. |

The sound, or rather the feel, of the Corvettes going past will be sadly missed. There was a lump in my throat when O'Connell did his burn out after the finish - very much the end of an era.
Plus ca change, plus ca meme chose though, the works Lola Aston Martins won, by a country mile, the evocative noise prize when they howled past on full chat - again, their slightly depleted formation finish was a joy to see. As ever, Le Mans 2009 provided a magnificent soundtrack to a great weekend. |

Can anyone find a figure of just how much of the 24 hours the 63 led in GT1?

It is true that the ground shaking growl of the Corvettes are going to be missed but there are still several fantastic sounding cars such as the GT2 V8 Vantage and the nostalgic sound of the Porsche 997 and the bark of the Ferrari F430.
There is of course the new Audi R8 GT2 and Ferrari (Hopefully the F142 V8!) to look forward to. |
