Andrettifan should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
What happened to Andy Rouse's 1992 Toyota Carinas

I wonder if anybody knew what happened to Andy Rouse's 1992 BTCC Toyota Carinas and also the 1992 BTCC Park Lane Toyota Carina. I would have guessed that some team would pick up these Toyota Carinas in the of season and race them in 1993 BTCC. However, I do not see any information on these Toyota Carinas after 1992. So if anybody has info on these cars, it would be wonderful to see. Thank you.

I recall the Swiss and ASTC had Carinas racing in them.

The 1991 car is for sale in New Zealand, along with his never raced 1998 Corrolla project - http://www.evolutionmotorsport.co.nz/for_sale.html

The Carinas raced in the Swiss series by Bemani were the later 'Carine E' shape.

I've got a vague memory of seeing one of the original Rouse cars in a Modified Saloon race at Lydden in the mid-90's- I'm sure I've got a photo somewhere. Brian Chatfield's name rings a bell, although that may simply be because he seems to have used a lot of ex-BTCC/DTM machinery in Modsaloond and Thundersaloons in the 80's/90's. I'll dig out programmes and pics later and see what I can find

I realise that I answered the question about the 1992 cars with an answer about the 1991 one, sorry. I do think I have seen reference to the Rouse cars being used in the Australian Touring Car series. If Brian Chatfield was involved (just how many cars did he have???) then it is possible that the cars ended up in NZ as a good many of his cars seemed to have been exported there for some reason.

Edited to add that I have found this link with some results in for 1994 (all sorts of UK series): http://www.teamdan.com/archive/1994/1994.html

Brian Chatfield is in the results, some way down, driving a Carina in the GMS Modified Saloon Series (and a Jag XJR-17 in Castle Combe GT!!!)

It'd be interesting to see what happened to these cars. Details of the 1991-1994 2-litre period are quite sketchy. There were at least 4 cars made.

'at least 4 cars' sounds about right- two ran in 1991 (Rouse & Ayles) in blue/white Kaliber/ICS colours,
http://www.stillphotography.co.uk/ga...91_16.jpg.html

and two in 1992 in Securicor Omega/ICS colours for Rouse and Hoy
http://www.stillphotography.co.uk/ga...ilv_w.jpg.html

The 1991 cars appeared again in '92- one run by Rouse for Thorkild Thyrring with Danepak sponsorship early season, then returning at the end of the year as a third Securicor/ICS car for Julian Bailey- it kept the blue/white base colours from '91
Thyrring:http://www.stillphotography.co.uk/ga...ton_w.jpg.html
Bailey: http://www.stillphotography.co.uk/ga...don_w.jpg.html
...the other run by Roland Dane's Park Lane outfit for James Kaye
http://www.stillphotography.co.uk/ga...nds_w.jpg.html

I think the car Brian Chatfield had was the 1991 car used by Thyrring & Bailey in '92- when I saw it at Lydden, I think it was still in the blue/white paintjob, with Chatfields sponsors added- I'll dig the photo out

I've wondered that as well! I can think of quite a few, apart from the Carina and XJR17 mentioned here- a couple of BTCC Capris
http://www.flickr.com/photos/1678887...7611422894664/ and a BMW 635, an ex-TWR Bastos Rover,
http://tentenths.com/forum/showpost....&postcount=131
a couple of Thundersaloon BMW 320s, I think the ex-Mark Hales 2-litre BTCC Starion from 1990, at least one each of ex-DTM BMW M3 and Mercedes, an ex-Matt Neal BTCC Primera...

Also he had the Toyota Corolla Liftback ST car that Andy Rouse built. I remember the final BTCC event of 2000, when Matt Neal crashed the Primera beyond repair in practice. They had to get the 1999 £250k-winning chassis from Brian Chatfield's barn, take it up to Silverstone and use that. Which is this car: http://www.st-register.com/register/vehicle/197.php

Last heard of, the Corrolla Liftback ST car was also in NZ & up for sale, I think it was in the same place as a few other STs & other Touring cars so this all starting to make sense

Chatfield in the Rouse Carina at Lydden- I can't lay hands on the programme right now, but think it's probably 1994 or thereabouts

Last I recall, the '98 never raced, but was rallied briefly? It's a shame that it never got to race against the other ST cars of it's time. It would be interesting to see how a privately built (by Andy Rouse nonetheless) ST car would hold up.
