Personal Firsts....
It's been one heck of a day for me.
One year on from my first meeting on the bank and I got my first MSA upgrading sig. (Ferrari 328GTB came in spitting lots of flames, but the Combe post B crew got it out in text book style ). I also got my first "trophy". What was left of a lump of TVR Tuscan Con Rod that got spat at me from Andy Brittnell's car. It set fire to the grass when it landed. When it cooled off I picked it up. It's a very distressed , chewed up piece of metal but somehow the TVR logo and part number survived ! So anyway the question is, what personal marshalling first's stick out in your memories? |

Congrats blackcrow - sounds like you had a brilliant day.
Marshalling firsts? Oh - The first time that I was pleased with the way in which I had dealt with an incident sticks out. There was no "Oh maybe I should have done this" or "maybe I should have waited/not waited so long" I just returned from the incident thinking "well I handled that one perfectly" and it was such a confidence booster. Moments like that don't come to often, but when they do it's BRILLIANT. |

Thanks WW,
It has to be said that it has been a top day in every respect (bit chilly but who's counting?). Top crew, very professional and up for a laugh. Racing was top flight (Tuscans, Ferrari Challenge, Combe saloons, Combe Special GT's, Two Caterham bouts, Global GT lights & Combe Fford 1600) all dicey encounters. We got the raging Ferrari fire out in perfect 4x2 formation without so much as a singed eyebrow, even though one bottle turned out to be a dud Thanx to all at Combe today - Esp Post B crew who were all superb to work with. Next up .... BTCC Testing at Thruxton on Wenesday/Thursday (Got to work tomorrow ) |

B1ackcr0w, Don't forget the other 2 marshals that were in attendance 'just in case'.
From where I was standing the incident was dealt with in a very professional manner. The whole team did really well with all that we had to deal with and we had a great team spirit to match. Look forward to working with you again. |

Dont get much of a chance to say thanks to the marshals at combe on race days, so nows my chance. Many a times ive needed assistance and all the marshals that have helped me in the past few years have been great. I hope I dont see you guys/girls for a while! (In a nice way of course)
Thanks |

Hi Blackcrow, nice to see you here I think one of my colleagues at Westway was the only person at Combe unimpresed by your handling of the Ferrari fire. I think his comments went along the lines of
"Oh look, a Ferrari on fire - hahaha - burn, burn, burn..." Nice to see that working for McLaren hasn't made him bitter though |

My first real fun memmory was at 750MC meeting at Oulton a few years back in my first full rookie year. I was on Old Hall corner out for the Hot hatches. The first race for them was red flagged. In the second attempt my more experienced taller marshal was watching a pergeot 206 aimat his brother ( who also had a rookie with him) i could see an escort XR3i comming at us. I grabbed my mentors shoulder and legged it away from the car which was now trying unsuccessfully to mate with the armco and bouncing towards us. I have never been so glad for the wooden posts as it was one of those that stopped the car. The only thing I have never worked out to this day is how the windscreen shot past us and we never saw it? The remnents of that day could be seen on the Catch fencing until Oulton park replaced it last season. Still we got an appology from the 750MC for it.
