Best Designed Car?
What car do you think is the Best Designed car ever? Doesn't have to be the best car ever, might have been dreadful to drive but stunningly beautiful or it could be something extremely unusual that was never mass produced.
Mine would have to be the Jaguar Mk-II. In my mind it has to be one of the most beautiful cars ever to be built, the lines are just so graceful and classic. The whole car is a statement in what was and is great about cars for my mind. |

slightly biased
but i have to say the BMC mini! The way that 75-80% of the car is used for occupant and luggage storage and that it was one of the first proper cars (obviously those BMW 'bubble cars' dont count!) designed with fuel efficiency and practicality in mind decide it for me. It was designed to serve a purpose in a fuel crisis and managed to last 42 years before being replaced by something which well, doesn't fulfill any of the above! And all that was done in just over 2 years! |

Hmm,
When you ask that question its is interesting to note that many good designs are british based. The adoption of monococque construction in popular production sportscars was BMC although I think the Jaguar D Type was first for competition cars. But as to best designed car? It really depends on your perception, what about the Merc 300SL? Gullwing doors, great engine and a fantastic (so I'm told) driving experience. Or indeed the De Lorean, for its use of stainless steel in its design? I guess the point is, are you looking at innovation (such as the Mini) or looks and fun? |

Got to go for the Lotus Elan.
Good looking car, quick, handles brakes and steers well. The perfect sports car. Even today a well driven Elan is a mighty quick A-B car. |

- innovative - fuel economy, storage space etc. - looks: (speaks for itself) - Fun, fun to drive apparently (can't confirm as mine is in bits). Although it could be argued that finding things like this: when you think you have a solid car isn't that fun! (don't want to see whats behind that rubber.....) EDIT: thinking about it, it was never designed to be fun or look good though.... |

Ferrari 250 GTO in my opinion.
But as a racecar design, I like the obvious Colin Chapman Lotus F1 cars. My personal favourite though, is the Chapparal 2J. |

The Citroen DS was way ahead of it's time. Would be one of the contenders for car of all time.

For me it has to be the Ferrari Dino, it just has perfect lines in my opinion.
Although I am also tempted to put forward SWMBO's favourite - the Jaguar D Type |

In terms of innovative design at the time, the Range Rover and Citroen DS are both cracking suggestions, but I would suggest they're overshadowed by the Mini. |

Best Designed Car?
all depends on your price tag and taste....
if your price range is viper status then by all means i love them things passionatly too (but i need to test drive it)...lol pontiac gto is nice also if your price range is somewhat average. i would definatly go with like a maxima, charger, the camaro when it comes out, g35 coupe by infinity.
