The deal between AMT and Arrows has just been confirmed, AMT will contineu the development of the Peugeot engines and suply them to Arrows. AMT is probably working for Toyota who now have a working engine wich they can improve for their factory team in 2002, Arrows can test that engine for Toyota and probably gets Toyota works engines in 2002 next to the factory team.

I knew arrows were getting first call on the Peugeot engines, but I didn't think Toyota would be supplying engines to anyone.

It's just a rumour about the Toyota connection, but it would'nt surprise me, they had to trash their V12 design with the new rules, so they need a V10 design fast, and AMT is a new Japanese company, that can't be a coincidence.

I'll be surprised if Toyota supply engines to Arrows. If they do end up with a good, or at least a promising engine, would they really want Arrows to have the advantage of having the same engine?

I wouldn't be surprised if it is truth that Toyota is behind AMT. It is a very cheap way to get a working F1 enigine design. All they have to do is put all theire old rally "junk" in a couple of flightcases and send it to Peugeot.
To me it also makes sense to suply engines to an other team , because if Bernie gets it his way (and doesn't he alway?) enginesupliers will have to do that any way. So why not choose for the AMT option, if it doesn't work they will simply denie that it ever existed. (Although i do think it is a shame that they went for Arrows an not Minardi) |

Arrows will have seemed a much better option than Minardi, bearing in mind the fact that Minardi haven't got any points this year, and don't, at present anyway, look like scoring any.

Well, as Sam Posey said, " That's the end of Arrows too."

The funny thing is, is that everyone is saying that Peugeot (AMT)motors are not that good!!! We don't know what to expect for the new season!! (Look at BMW)We will see what happens in the wintertests, and then, only then we can say how the Arrows team is looking with the new AMT motor!!!
And do you know why...........Because StoneGold said so!! |

I think that the only raeson that arrows have taken the peugeot engines, is that there was nothing else availible. Even the slow and heavey peugeot engine makes the arrows-Hart V10 look quick. They could have been forced to back to that.

that's not exactly true Jaques, Arrows had the first rights to the Supertec engines, but Tom Walkinshaw wanted a longer deal, Supertec will stop when Renault arives in 2002, and judging from the press release on the arrows site ( http://www.arrows.com ) the engines will be completely re -developed. And there were also a few teams who complained about the Supertec last year, and now look at Benetton and Arrows, they are really scoring points, and getting good top speeds, the engine is not the only thing to blame in the Prost misery, remember Jordan Peugeot???, they had some good races, it's the combination of things that's important.
