Why WTCC Cars Are So Fast?
The WTCC cars are not powerful, they aren't light-weight race cars, and we can see a small rear wing as the only aerodynamics part on them.
However it was only 3.6sec slower than a 500hp Gallardo GT3 in Macau circuit, and it was 9sec faster than a 650hp+,1250kg Lancer Evolution from Macau Road Sport Challenge events! How can they did it? PS,if you what to compare the WTCC laptime to other race cars' time in Macau circuit, click the link below. http://www.macau.grandprix.gov.mo/gp...lang=en#result |

Yes,the Lancer was on FULL SLICKS.
This Lancer can lap Zhuhai Circuit in 1:45 on Yohohama A050 Semi Slicks with 1300kg minimum weight according to the regulations in China.A FIA GT3 Car can be as fast as 1:39 there with Full Slicks. Full slick is allowed in Macau, and there are no minimum weight limit there. |

I assume that the Evo is a modified road car, so even with slicks it will be on essentially road car suspension. WTCC car will have purpose built race suspension, plus as a purpose built shell with integral cage will have almost zero chassis flex compared to the Evo. On a circuit like Macau the supervisor handling of the WTCC car will more than make up for the lack of bhp.

red shoes covered pretty much everything I was thinking. Taking too much weight out of a road car just to make it lighter can also serve to weaken the chassis and make it have even less grip than a purpose built race car. How strict are they on the construction of WTCC cars from a street shell with street suspension points, or can they be modified for performance parts?

The whole front end of an S2000 is definetaly not from a road going machine, they are all stickered up like Stock Cars. And the Cruze has a flat floor, plastic windows, stuff like that.

Factories and tens of people whose role in life it is to make a factory (important word) race car faster than anything else on the track.
A road car is not developed in the same way, whether it is a Lambo or a Lancer, it is not purely designed to go rounda track quicker than owt else. However, put the Lancer on a rally stage, something it is designed for and it would be faster than an equivalent 4wd car like n Audi S4 or something. Horses for courses |

Small corrction, the Cruze only has plastic windows when its racing BELOW minimum weight (which the new 2009 balancing system introduced). If a car is made to be 1000kg and suddenly, mid season, should be 980kg, itsonly resonable to allow it to change some parts to lighter ones that doesnt affect driver safety.
