Extreme Redux
Those of us who have been around these fine forums for a while will remember that I pushed my then limits with a design that I simply called Extreme.
Amazingly that was january of 2007 In August of 2008 I hinted at trying to put Extreme onto Sketch-up, to which Tathrim quite rightly described as being ambitious. Well now in 2010, with what you might call a second bout of April foolishness, I'm now able to announce and unveil Extreme Redux There are a number of slight variations from the original, most notably the inclusion on a third tunnel rather than a second bridge. I'd like to say there was some fancy reason for this, but the truth is that I misread my own drawing when putting in the elevation. With hindsight I think it's probably worked out better this way as it allows more run off at T9. The Original estimate of the circuit length was 10.5km (6.5 miles) turns out to be out by 20% as the actual circuit length of Extreme Redux is 12.418 km (7.761 miles). Well done if you've read through this before opening up the images for a better look, As usual comments, criticisms and possible edits are welcome. |

Nice! Sometimes I make a track like this to give me inspiration for sections of, you know, normal tracks. haha

Its tracks like these that desperately make me wish we could either:
1) Have a fly-by camera that will take us round the track or 2) Better still, be able to play it Selby |

OK so this circuit is clearly aimed at long distance races and as a venue for testing.
Overtaking opportunities are not scarce at all, given the fact that there are several straights on the circuit as long as the main straight. So you could make a move into Turn 1, Turn 6, Turn 8, Turn 17, Turn 20 and optimistic moves into Turns 12, 15 and 23. There is hardly that much overtaking necessary in a long distance race, so short distance events should be possible as well. Yet, it would not be too easy to sell out the whole venue. Where are the best seats around the place? |

Thank you all for your comments.
Overtaking, in my view is plentiful, though perhaps not quite where Yannick see it. T1 definitely, with T2 being far enough away that someone on a non-defensive line at T1 might get smooth traction and get alongside for T2. T6 though not a tight corner is the next overtaking point. T8 the 90 degree right hander off the bridge would certainly be a chance though not a certainty, likewise T10. I don't really see T12 as an overtaking chance as getting it wrong will screw up T13, and seriously compromise T14 and T15. I think the left kink at T14 means no overtaking at T15. T17 is a definite overtaking point, though defending it could lead to a similar scenario to T1 and T2, with a switchback/block pass into T18. Having said that you need to get T18 correct as T20 is another certain overtaking spot. I'm not sure about overtaking into T23, perhaps it might be better to follow closely through T23 and then out-brake into T24, showing your opponent the grass between T24 and T25 before taking the T25 apex. As for best seats...Does LeMans have best seats, or just favourite ones you go back to every year??? I can't give you a fly-by of the circuit but if you want to take a closer look, I'll attach the Sketch-up file |

I'm thinking the best way of doing this would be to 'Walk through' the track, and maybe record it using Fraps or something?

Well by jove, that looks AMAZING!!
Well, done, that's inspired me to do something once my exams are finished, but I think I'll try a little hand-drawn scale drawing, as that's much more flexible (and far easier than that looks like it was) |
