2011 13th entry
On SPEED last night they reported that the FIA had received 15 entries for the open slot on next years' grid. 2 are believed to be American - one made up a bunch of ex-USF1 guys excluding Anderson and Windsor, the other rumoured to be headed up by Anderson himself. We know Epsilon Euskadi and Stefan GP also applied, who are the other 11? I wonder if Eddie Irvine is trying again (hope not)? I am surprised the motorsports press isn't discussing this topic.

Durango also applied. Prodrive and Lola also say that they didn't.
Who else would be capable? That is the question. If there were US bids, it wouldn't be a leap to suggest that a certain Mr Penske might be behind one of them. For some reason I think Dome could be tempted to give it a go, but who knows. Someone leasing out Toyota's place in Cologne? iSport? Panoz? DAMS? ART? Who knows ... Mods, could this be merged in to this one? |

Sorry, forgot about the other thread.
I really doubt Penske would enter, he hasn't even found a title sponsor for his Indycar program, let alone an F1 effort. It would be a great name obviously though to see back. Dome would be interesting seeing as there is no longer a Japanese presence on the grid. |

Dome have also given up (by the looks of it) on an LMP1 project, so don't have that much on that the moment. They are also rather capable and tried F1 before but couldn't get the money. Now, well, they could possibly get the involvement of a Japanese manufacturer, bearing in mind that Japan is still F1 crazy, and that there are some very good Japanese drivers that could bring money with them *cough*Sato*cough*.

Why aren't there any news items on this? SPEED seems to be the only one who picked up on it. Let's see, it wasn't April 1st... So what's going on?

As much as I'd love a US effort, I don't think it'll happen soon after what went down with USF1. Wonder how much longer Bernie is going to be running the show? He never was for a USF1 team and is only interested in a GP for money, not because of F1 history in the US (which is pretty good despite modern America caring less).
