Veggie Risky Driver Activities...

Off track... scary that simple things seem to have caused career adjusting injuries...

Jason Richards Here broke his nose while spending time with his children.

He reported significant pain with the break, which to my mind is not something that will cure easily. Article suggests Mr Richards will be ready for Darwin, but you would have to imagine would be in a significant degree of pain.

While Mr Johnson broke his leg, presumably less badly than Mr Rossi, in an article Here.

The logical question in this one is how a driver may achieve entry and exit of a very tight V8Supercar with a broken leg...

I always wonder why the team management allow drivers to include activities like Motorcross riding in their in season training regimes but if they're falling down stairs and hitting their heads on slippery dips I think they've got bigger problems

I've once had to chair a meeting with clients and explain that my black eye was the result of an accidental head butt from my toddler daughter.

You too? I had to do the same with a very swollen and sore black eye. I was blissfully sleeping on my back when my wife turned over in her sleep and her elbow landed right in my eye socket. Maybe sleeping, and playing with your kids should be added to the 'dangerous pastimes' list.

He could just stand on his other leg.
If you think thats far too hard, watch Alex Zanardi get into his WTCC BMW from last year etc without the use of fully functional legs.
And even then its still possible to get in/out without the use of any legs as I normally do hopping in/out of the Lantra.

TSR has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I know of a certain leading Holden driver competing in a celeberty powerboat race two weekends ago.

Proves what we've all been told. Sleeping with a married woman is dangerous.

When on official promotional duties as arranged via V8SA with event promoters, there is apparently a substantial list of "can't do" activities.

carl had a broken foot, and did very well getting in and out of the car as well as out on track, where it counts.

wouldn't the real issue be the driver's ability to use the injured leg for what it is intended to be used for in the car? scoop 'em up and shovel 'em in, or whatever you need to do, but get them in the car.

once they are in the car, that is where the questions start...unless there are rules about how quickly a V8 supercar driver needs to enter and exit the car.....

I don't know if the CAMS ruling is any different for able bodied persons but for cripples you need to exit the vehicle in 7 seconds on the drivers side and 12 seconds on the passenger side.

There was a documentary out in the 70's called "On Any Sunday", focussing on the motorcycle world. It had a follow up, which had a central focus on the Yamaha riders.

Kenny Roberts, while racing in Europe in the 500's also would race dirt events and motocross, as to hold the #1 plate in the US you had to win in all disciplines.

These days, could you imagine any major team releasing their driver/rider for motocross or something of the like?

The days of allowing professionals to pursue other interests is fast diminishing, sadly.

I can see why, but are you going to put in Driver's contracts they can't play with their kids, or must only use properties and motel resorts that have flat, bubble wrapped surfaces???

Let's be honest - accidents happen. They can happen on the track as well! If you want to go the full distance, let's make the Cars out of rubber rock, have foam all throughout the car and limit them to 30 km/h.......

Not actually true, KR won the US #1 plate and then went to Europe to race GP's. He didn't race both in the same year. But your point is valid. Several MotoGP riders have missed races or had races compromised due to training accisents. A couple of years ago Nicky Hayden missed a couple of races after breaking a leg in a SuperMotard race during the mid season break and earlier this year Valentino Rossi damaged shoulder ligaments after falling from a motocross bike he was training on.

I would have asked Denny Hamlin who has a busted ACL, or Adrian Fernandez who climbed into a ChampCar a number of times in 2002 with leg and hip injuries.

It's been upwards of 10 years since I saw it, so I stand corrected.

It's a calculated risk the professionals take. In my mind, it's up to them if they wish to take it, and know the consequences (IE, missing races, injury, etc) if they do.
