rustyinsthoz should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Being a race car driver in Australia

Interesting article in the business section of the Sydney Morning Herald. Doesn't paint a rosy picture of Australian Motor sport today.

I should be a reporter. I've known that 'motorsport costs money, not makes money' for bloody years.....
Although i was never aware this was a secret before now....

is it correct?

The article says:

At a function in Sydney last week Peter Worth, a former senior vice-president at sports marketing agency IMG who now runs Sports Recruitment International, foreshadowed just such a change.

Worth believes government funding of major sporting events is coming to an end.

''They are not going to make a commitment to be involved for five years,'' Worth said.

"Governments come and go … All the government's really doing is trying to bring in tourism dollars, fill hotels, and get their name out there telling everybody that NSW or Victoria is a great place to come to.''

After years & years of trying VESA have got into the WA Govt coffers & its for five (5) years.
Benefit to local infrastructure with an upgrade at Barbagallo Raceway.

Probably not any different than it ever was. But from what I have heard most V8SC drivers derive some revenue from the sport, somehow.

Some of the drivers that bring sponsorship, if they are smart include a fee or a cut of the funds so they can support their driving and have something to live on.

The other work mentioned, well, nothing wrong with all that. It's a living, if not a great one usually, but you get to drive and have fun.
