Another case of how to snatch oblivion from the fires of glory.....
2009 could have been Honda's year but they financed a buyout in the wake of the recession. A year later and did Toyota do exactly the same thing.....? I have always wondered about it and now I am seeing why I felt that way. |

I thought that the 2010 Toyota would have been a better choice of a test mule for Pirelli than the 2009 car. I dont understand why they can't use the 2010 car, unless there is some deal happening behind the scenes with those cars?

From what I can gather, and there was a quote somewhere to back it up, Pirelli had to use a car that had no potential of being utilised by other teams, which suggested that there were a team trying to purchase the car, presumably HRT.

Errr, I think using the 2009 car is more about because they need RELIABLE platform in which test tyres..., and a car that already has had miles under bridgestones so they can compare...
If you want to test tyres you don´t need an unproven 2010 race winning car (how do you know that Toyota will be winning races this year in a car that did not even turn a wheel in a circuit???? just because a double difusser and fancy aero???? ) package, but a reliable 2009 runner... |

On a side note - were the tests against Bridgestone Tyres conducted back to back, and does anyone know how the times compare? |

Vasselon can say what he wants, but I dont see anything spectacular regarding the aero of that car. Rear packaging in the sidepods could improve with the blown diff, though.

So we might see this car in 2011 as a HRT or even a Lotus? I for one thought it might have been the Brawn of this year had it run, but perhaps not with Stefan GP overseeing it. Such a waste, and a waste of Glock too.

If it becomes a Lotus, it would almost certainly be a Lotus that has nothing to do with Tony Fernandes. Joe Saward says that Group Lotus are going to sue Lotus Racing/Team Lotus over the Team Lotus trademark. Group Lotus have now entered in to agreements with GP2 and GP3 outfit ART, and Fernandes has his own GP2 team for next year (Team AirAsia).

ahhh ffs. there's nothing that makes commercial partners think "abandon ship" like a nice legal dispute.

Probably the best way Tony Fernandes could deal with this mess (apart from the fact he will probably win the lawsuit, as David Hunt did in '98) is to go for the Pac-Man offensive and buy Group Lotus.

it would seem logical. the only thing that seems a bit iffy is his red bull style motorsport world domination plans with bits of lotus racing here there and everywhere. if i were group lotus i'd be worried about it downgrading the brand.

Yeh it does seem a bit 'walking before crawling' doesn't it? Surely just concentrate on the F1 for now.
