Korean GP chequered flag!
Did anyone else notice that Alonso didn't take the chequered flag on Sunday? The chequered flag was show after he had gone past the finish line!

I'm pretty sure it was out, but just. It wasn't as bad as when they got Pele to wave it at Interlagos a few years ago.

From what I remember it doesn't matter if the chequered flag goes out or not. The regulations state that the race is deemed to end after the allotted number of laps / time whether the flag is shown or not.

I would of thought that it was probably too dark to see him until the car was level to the guy... Fair play to him.. Late is better than early.. And yes I have done both.. Lol

There was a time at Mondello (and I'm talking about within the last 10 years here) where the number of laps remaining for karts was calculated by the starter moving rocks from one step of the gantry to another.
And the rocks were an UPGRADE!!! Previously it had been coke cans but a particularly strong breeze had blown them ALL off the various steps and the cadets had got 2 extra laps! |

Hey, don't knock the rocks! They're pretty reliable! It's the Rock Placement Coordinator, or Starter, as some people call them that's fallible.

Here is another person in support of rocks. After the last "disagreement" between the premature finisher, and everyone else who was counting the laps, I had a lovely hopscotch-style diagram drawn on the concrete for me, with someone moving a drink bottle down the numbers.
Oh, on topic, my bet is that he couldn't see the car, and it probably wasn't someone who has much of a motorsport background either. |

Well, they've been late when trying to meet every other target so far, so why change tradition at the chequer?

I noticed that yes, can't say it surprised me that despite the guy behind Alonso being given the chequered flag, Ferrari International Assistance gave the red boys the spoils again.
They should have stripped them of the German GP too. Say no more! |

I think he got the flag out just in time but wasn't waving it. He then got into motion with a nice twirling motion.

Didn't Pele give Sato the win in Brazil a few years ago.

Over the years though, some flags have been waved more enthusiastically than others. |
