Stockhatch 205 GTI issues
Dear all knowledgeable 205 stockhatch drivers;
My recently acquired 205 has decided not to start after 3 months of being sat dormant. The engine turns over but it will not fire. There is no power at the fuel pump, which is the first issue, but even when we run the fuel pump direct from the battery, it still wont fire. We have checked and the plugs are indeed sparking. We have searched for a fuel pump relay but to no avail (also been referred to as the tachymetric relay). Could this be anything other than a busted ECU?? Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks. |

it could well be your ecu has got damp with lying up . . . i have seen that problem before with one of them and we swapped the ecu and it fired up first time . . . .it may not solve your problem but it cured mine . . . . .

More likely to be the Tachy relay it will be located somewere one the left hand side near to the ECU depending on were it's been fastened. or maybe fastened under the dash. It will be around 2" long compared to the other relays normally only around 1" long, possibly grey in colour with 6 or 7 pins depending on year of car.
The ECU's are also prone to filling with water if left in the standard place, unplug and open up if it's damp try leaving in a warm room near a radiator over night and re-try. Not the best description but it was 1994 when i last rallied a 205 so the memories are a little vauge, I know my car had 2 x tachymetric relays that were switched so we could just switch it over if it ever went in stage. Hope it helps a little |

Sorry forgot to mention it wont fire if the relay is down due to it switching the ecu and not just being a fuel pump relay

To find the fuel pump relay look out for the one which has 1 heavy white and 2 heavy brown wires in the centre 3 pins of the relay plug and also a thin wire with a green shield cover on it. When you locate it join the heavy white and 2 heavy browns all together and thats the fuel pump relay bypassed. Hope this helps you.
