I looked at very many variations to use on my trip and settled for the little Swift! Familiar fwd, rhd, so no bad things. And I ahve also heard, unless you have lots of experience there and even more of driving a powerful car at high speed, you are wasting our time in a Porsche or M3 as you cant exploit it on open days
I was told that if you drive a hire car there the ticket thing or something scans your plate and it is forwarded to the company, understandable to be honest, have never understood why people thrash hire cars anyway, the cost is only going to be passed on to you in some way! |

Perhap's,but not all of the time BTW,RE Ron Simmons,he has been banned from using the circuit, big falling out with the two clown's who are trying to recoupe the Eu 500 million thats been invested there. Same for poor old Sabine, her Hotel has struggled over the last year because of the new Hotel, she complained [not being one to just roll over] and now is not allowed on the circuit. One clown claims that he is not worried about the outcome of failing the task set for him!. I think the German Government will be stepping in very soon. |

I still remember the Hockenheim desaster that mainly occured thanks to the involvement of said green party, so I am not very positive on the governmental change down there. |

All sounds very ominous really.
I thought in reality Hockenheim was not a very safe track, and in fact the improvements have made the circui at least more compact. And to be honest, the track basically ran into the forest and back again, totally surrounded by trees! If the greens had their way Andy the track would not be there at all! The same thing happened in reality at Zeltweg, Assen (utter disgrace) and to some extent Silverstone. It's called progress and at Hockenheim the packaging is better as are the logistics of running events in a smaller space. Racing is crap, but who cares about that eh, certainly not bigwigs. So let me get this straight, the German government has invested loads of money into the Nurburgring, and have now got control of the way it is run? And reading btween the lines they want to close it as it is unsafe or costs too much ro run? Is that it? |

As I understand it the Nürburgring was under the control of the local government. Then some clown came and promised to invest millions over millions to build some useless, oversized entertainment facilities at the Ring. It got build but that "investor" never had any money and somehow (i have no clue how)the government ended up paying for everything.

I've not read anything about plans to "close" the ring at all over here.
As I understand it and as is said above, the government (government meaning under the power of the current party/administration) had installed said clowns and it is alleged that there have been some dodgy dealings to the tune of 330 million Euros of state funds to create this "motorsport theme park" concept which has been essentially a flop. The so-called "threat" from the green/socialist party has not as much to do with environmental or safety issues as it has to do with politics. Naturally by being the opposition party they are putting the use (or perhaps misuse) of these funds under the microscope and therefore putting the current parties that hold power under pressure to take responsibility and/or action. Unfortunate for the 'Ring but predictable (and understandable IMO) reaction from an opposition party. However again, I haven't seen any facts stating that due to this they plan close the 'Ring. I think that is pure speculation and internet scare bla-bla based on zero facts. Wouldn't make sense for any of the parties to close it regardless of their philosophical leanings. It will certainly have a shakeup though and that is disconcerting. |

I think it will all turn out just fine Earl, the Government is not in a possition to 'bin' that kind of investment. Problem is getting these two morons to walk, that will cost!
Original idea was to get about 15/20 private investments in the project,a certain person said yeah no problem, but when he asked the question, only one could be found but since withdrew his offer,he is now known as 'Clown No 2'. |

First off, if the government pulls the financial plug it doesn't equal a closure as it still would be possible that some third party investor(s) save it with their funding. It is a bit like Donington at the moment. Players exchanged but similar financial ballgame.
I think we should move this discussion to a more proper place as it has not much to do with the topic and initial post anymore. |

Here's a website that used to the the bible for people going to the 'ring:
http://nurburgring.org.uk/ It's not as good as it used to be because I don't think Ben Lovejoy has much to do with it now, but there's still plenty of good information there. |
