Recruiting info...

Over the course of the weekend at Goodwood, I spoke to a number of people who seemed interested in becoming a Marshal. Some of them pointed that they had seen a stand down in the main showground area (which I didnt know was there until they mentioned it)

My question/point is about where we should be pointing people who show an interest, and whether there are any leaflets/business card type thing we can hand out? For the larger events like Goodwood, and the small clubby at Silverstone this weekend, it would be good to know if there is a Marshal Recruitment stand, and where it might be to direct interested people.

Probably no point in me getting hold of recruitment leaflets this weekend, as I cant see me being close enough to many spectators at Luffield Centre, but for other events (large or small) it might be useful to have something to pass over the fence to the public who we get talking to.

Maybe a pile of recruiting info (and or info about where the recruiting stand would be) at sign on might be a good way to get stuff out?

The Goodwood Marshals Club did indeed have a stand on the showground, and were doing a lot of trade with the "Go Motorsport" guys. I'm sure the Goodwood estate would be quite favourable if the BMMC or other clubs approached them, just a case of someone taking the initiative and making contact.

I tend to point people towards Go Motorsport, as they might have heard about that already

BMMC do have a leaflet that is handed out at BTCC meetings from the recruitment tent manned by Peter Wilson. Every BMMC region has a supply of these, so contact the chairman or recruiting officer for a supply. Failing that drop me an email with your name and address.

BMMC do try to cover all the BTCC meetings as well as other large events but the problem is getting volunteers to man them. Nobody seems willing to spare a few hours to help out. The exception being at Oulton Park where volunteers are allocated posts close to the tent and rotate duties during the day.

I was given some cards from Volunteers in Motorsport a couple of years back, I kept them in my MSA Reg card cover because I normally keep that in my Probans.

I should see if any more are available as I have handed out the few I had.

I have the Go Motorsport Sticker on the tailgate of my car.. although it is off the road at the moment

Looking at it, my efforts dont look very positive this season

That's an interesting way of doing it - I'd much rather 'help out' for a period over a weekend's marshalling... I also think it would make it more interesting to say "I'm on that post there, so far this weekend we've done x,y,z" than "I marshal"

[Just don't ask me to do BTCC ]

I can't speak for the other circuits Mr Ridler but Donington also have a strong recruitment team which are happy to man any of the BTCC events and anyother major meetings that we are able to get space at to have a stand.

We also have an excellent Taster Day programme in the Midlands covering Donington Mallory and Rockingham with an excellent conversion rate of attendees to marshals. These Taster Days are also well manned by an enthusiastic team.

If anyone wants to point would be marshals in the right direction the BMMC website Midlands Region has the Taster Day dates available
They would be very welcome

I totally agree, [Except for the BTCC as I always do it at Brands, Snet and Thruxton] I certainly wouldn't mind doing an hour or two on a stand for the public.
Although wouldn't want to leave my post short of marshals, I mean, BTCC is so undermanned normally isn't it!

As Eric has said all Regions have stores of BMMC leaflets, carry a few & hand them out. Mention the BMMC website on the rear of the leaflet as this, in my opinion, gives more relevent and easily understood information. I may be asking for help at the BTCC rounds at Snetterton 7th Aug, Knockhill 4th Sept & Brands 2nd Oct.

Bognor Regis MC have details at our HQ at FoS, next to the BARC tent except we seem to be getting hidden more each year.
We are only interested in recruiting members from our area but do have Go Motorsport leaflets and of course mention BMMC.
I have post cards for BMMC that I printed off the website some time back they have Sue's address but I have crossed that out and point people at the web address that is also on the card, that way they have a better chance of remembering the address if it's written down.
And as Steve said Goodwood Marshals Club were there and doing a grand job!
