Round 9 - Moto GP 2011, Sachsenring

Friday is done. Sounds like Rossi had a pretty rough crash in FP1. And it also sounds as if there were a fair amount of crashes in general. (more Bridgestone mutterings) Capirossi is out after FP1 and Guintolli has taken his place.

Simoncelli lead both sessions. Lorenzo, Pedrosa, Stoner, Dovisioso are there or there abouts.

125 and Moto 2 was pretty tight today.

Second from last in qualifying. That certainly isn't fun to watch, fan of his or not.

Really? Spaniards win every damn race pretty much!!

Getting very bored of Marques now, might aswell move up to GP already. when you weight as little as that it's so much easier to save the tyres, he has a huge top speed advantage over everyone, just like Pedrosa always was in 250/125, he has an unfair advantage

nevermind the fact the Suter is built around him, Where is Suter every meeting?? Lurking round Marques team

Casey just to defensive against Lorenzo - must be kicking himself again...

So how did they choose Faubel over Zarco for the 125 win?

Should they add ballast to a motorbike/rider that keeps winning if weight is an issue?

I read (BBC) that they gave it to Faubel because he had the quicker fastest lap during the race.

Yep, that's what I heard too.

Good race today for once. Nice to see a few battles down the order along with a battle for the top spot. I agree, Stoner was a bit too defensive on the second to the last corner. But he wouldn't have known that Lorenzo wasn't as close as he should have been due to getting the prior corner a bit wrong. Fair play for Rossi, but 9th doesn't do much. Ducati have a dilemma on their hands. Race the 11.1, or the GP11?

Agreed, not a bad race, good battles, but Pedrosa like MArques has a huge advtantage there because of his weight, he simply doesnt wear the tyreout as much as has that little bit of extra punch onto the straight.

It doesnt always work that way as in 125 Terol's power advantage was blindingly obvious yet he was unable to use it.

Good ride by Lorenzo and very good for Bautista, for a change the bike worked in the cool weather. Crutchlow was very fed up after, saying he might aswell have gone home, bike felt the same no matter what they did to it! Seems odd as both Colin and him were up there early on in the year?

As for Ducati, they are really wasting their time, forget 2011, for me I would not be surprised if Rossi's garage are alreayd trying extreme setups on the chassis in readiness for 2012. 2011 was over after the first test at Valencia really!!

EGG has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I was wondering today the extent to which the smaller riders might lose out on braking due to not being able to move as much weight as far back as other riders. Or able to block as much wind. I haven't really ridden my bike on the limit for lap after lap so can't really guess at how tangible the difference would be.

Yeah, braking and leverage are areas where the taller/bigger riders have an advantave over the likes of Pedrosa. And maybe that's why Simoncelli is able to make some of his passes despite the "one-line" style of the 800's.
