Front wings
Hi everybody. Still learning all the tricks in aerodynamics, but do understand the purpose of anhedral front wing. Not sure about wing on front of this years F1's  The wing bending up at the outer edges would appear to disturb airflow into the sidepods (thus affecting cooling) and the center section being dipped would mess up airflow travelling under the car, whereas I thought you wanted to stop air from getting under the car, even to the extent of running an airdam. Can some one please explain.

I'll try to make you understand more boyracer...

The theory is to get more airlow into the undertray of the car and to it's radiators. Why? because at the rear of each car there are these aerodynamically structured wind tunnels called diffusers which sucks the air generated under the car producing more downforce (pulling the car down) |

Thank you JukeBox, am aware of purpose of endplates and diffusers. Believe you have answered most of my question though. The question originated after having a close look at the new chassis in RaceCar Engineering, and comparing the form of the F1 to an IRL or IndyCar Chassis. Of course the main difference being the height of the nose. (generically speaking).
If you are aware of any more sites that offer detailled explanations of the current model cars, formula or saloon I would appreciate being informed. |

There's this great site for formula1 but i guess it's down temporarily....www.f1technical.net
For nascar and saloon cars? hmmm...the best on internet is The NASA site (click here) so far that i can find. Nasa has this great site for nearly everything that has to do with Aerodynamics. Last edited by Jukebox; 17 May 2002 at 08:04. |

Have a look at the site of the Gazzetta dello Sport. Although text is in Italian they have a serious collection of nice animations which may visualise some of the things mentioned.
