Ian, even if the driver was honest about the incident it still took a strong Clerk to hand out the penalty. It would not have happened in a BTCC race, it was exactly what club racing needs.

I sometimes wonder if it has anything to do whether the "victim" driver complains. For instance Nina was sideswiped at Brooklands whilst being lapped - and she had left lots of room. This was reported by the PC. She wasn't a happy bunny but on return we found the damage fortunately minimal and clearly it was an accident.
We chose not go to the Clerk, and nothing happened. If we had reported it to the CoC then I think it might have done, or at least the driver called for a talking too. As it happens he held his hand up in the paddock immediately after and apologised - which is fine. This is very much the ethos in the MR2 Championship. I have a gut feeling this is possibly why we (marshals) report stuff sometimes and then nothing happens? |
