You would have to go back and read the articles on that item from rags of the day, or books on it.
It has been too long since I read such accounts and do not want to make much of a guess.

MONEY is probaly the main item.
Penske got it, and had it, but even Penske had performance req. in his contract which at one point in 1970 they new if they did not start winning the contract would probably be cancelled.

Why Penske left Chevy is the basis for why he approached AMC.

Certain points are raised about arguments during the Trans-Am era but not discussed greatly in the recent Donohue book - naturally as I'm sure you already know it seems Mark/Roger centric rather than taking any great anti stance.
