Car share

Not sure if anyone has ever looked at this before, but after spending a lot of time reading the Ben Lovejoy Nurburgring site I have come across a really great idea for a track day car.

On there, a group of guys got together and bought a Golf GTI, I think there were three or four of them and they sort of shared it. They looked after it, shared the driving and generally used it and abused it!

For someone like me with plenty of time and opportunity to get involved in something like this it would be a great idea as though I have the money and time to get involved I have no space or garages etc to store a car, or any parts.

Is it something that people do over here? I did a day at the Green Hell a few months ago and enjoyed it very much, (despite the motion sickness). Would be great to think there might be a few people around who maybe can't afford the while hog or want to split a few costs on insurance, purchase etc. Not necessarily for a Nurburg car, but anything in the UK.
