Race of Champions — Brands Hatch 1986

A few questions for anyone that can help:

1. What was the date of thay 1986 Race of Champions at Brands Hatch took place?

2. Does anyone have the roster?

3. (Stupid question...) Was it a F1600 or FF2000 event?

I vaguely remember a Ford Escort celebrity race, and maybe the FF world cup thing? Didnt Ratzenberger or Favre win?

Not sure if there were other classes, but in talking with someone else, they referred to it as a Formula Ford race and that Niclas Schoenstrom from Sweden won. I know that Paul Tracy took part in it, driving for the Van Diemen factory team.

He may well have... the person I spoke to at Van Diemen didn't sound confident in their reply!

Bringing back a topic from the dead since I recently got my hands on the race programme for the Shell Gemini 1000 kms race at Brands Hatch and while searching for the results of the Race of Champions found this old thread.

I can, a few years late, answer the questions:

1. What was the date of thay 1986 Race of Champions at Brands Hatch took place?
Sunday, 20th July

2. Does anyone have the roster?
Eric van de Poele
Svend Sylvest Hansen
J.J. Lehto
Phillipe Gache
Antonio Simoes
Scott Atchinson
John Decker
Jackson Yonge
Roland Raztenberger
Niclas Schönström
Enrico Benedeti
Gianfranco Cane
Paul Tracy
Tomas Mezera
Mark Blundell
Cameron Binnie
Martin Boyle
Frank Biela
Stefan Neuberger
Maarten Bottelier
Patrick Duffy
Peter Stoller
Basil Mann
Paulo Carcasi
Craig Coleman

3. (Stupid question...) Was it a F1600 or FF2000 event?
FF1600

After some more research I found the following in the Swedish auto sport yearbook from 1986:

1. Roland Ratzenberger
2. Paolo Carcasci
3. Antonio Simoes
...
6. J.J. Lehto
...
11. Niclas Schönström

According to the report Niclas Schönström started fourth, was up to 2nd but then his engine shut off and continued to turn on and off for two times more.

It appears that Schönström won the race in 1985.

FF not F1 - Ford did it for a couple seasons, all identical VD's which were then shipped out to markets anew! I hate to think where there are RF85s parked up, Im waiting for one to emerge from the chaos in Syria.

According to my records Coyne was disqualified for getting outside assistance on his car during the warmup lap and then passing the entire field under yellow.

This is the results that I have from 1985:

1. Niclas Schönström
2. Antonio Mangia
3. Bernd Schneider
4. Vivian Daly
5. Jari Haavisto
