A classic for £2k
(or equivalent) xe.com
I'll start with this: A-reg Mercedes 500 SEC, a bargain at £1,990. (I'm not related to the seller!) Maybe there are other threads to follow?! |

Another contender for sub £2k and the cheaper end of the market. |

I bought one for £123.46 a couple of years ago. Drove to Prague and back in it! I should have started a less that £150 thread.

Triumph Spitfires can be had cheaply, and there is a stunning MGBGT on the front cover of Classic, Performance & Retro magazine that was bought for less than £3K (yes I know the thread said £2K...but it was only a little bit over!) Shop around and it's amazing what you can get.

You can go down the Mercedes route and may get a good one, but if it goes wrong, it'll really cost!
MGB / Midget / Spitfire are cheap to buy and you can get all the spares you'll need at reasonable prices as well as technical advice. The cars are pretty reliable, too. I've retired 6 months ago and bought an MGB GT for daily transport. Cost £1500 and I'm doing a 'rolling restoration' as well as driving it daily. |

BMW e21 3 series. I recently bought a mint black 316 for less than £1k.

Reading this thread and watching the cheap car challenges on Top Gear depresses me! It is amazing how cheap older European cars are over there.
There's a car yard across the road from my office and they're selling plain, 4 cylinder E36 BMWs for the equiavlent of GBP6000. That's the just an example of the ridiculous prices Australians pay for European cars. |

What about a brown Rover saloon. Or any Rover saloon?

I've always had a soft spot for these since my mates and I did the "bohemian raphsody" thing in one when we were teenagers:

That would be fun. A proper practical classic.

Nice.... but I suspect the reserve is over-budget for this thread

Very nice
Probably go for over £2k, probably too much trouble if it doesn't! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1989-ALFA-...f#ht_500wt_922 |
