Roger, what is the source of this information? I have never heard about this before, and I can find no references to it.

Theme Lotus 1956 - 1986 from Chapman to Ducarouge; Doug Nye; MRP, 1978

Chapter: Lotus 38, p84
"Later that summer Team took one 38 on a European exhibition tour, and Clark drove it in a Swiss hill-climb at Ste Ursanne-Les Rangiers -- in the wet. Fitted with symmetrical suspension and a five-speed ZF gear box the car made six climbs, the quickest being 3.6 seconds slower than Siffert's FTD in Rob Walker's F1 Brabham-BRM."

Welcome to 10-Tenths, huwon9, and many thanks; that's absolutely a new one on me! Sounds like it was just the one-off, although Roger, suggests there may have been others. Were there?

October 5th 1957 was the first time Clark's tasted victory inside a motorcar, winning the Border Motor Racing Club Trophy at Charterhall. The Rest-and-be-Thankful Hillclimb was next, which he took in his own automobile, a Triumph TR-3.

His first big win came on October 5, 1957 in a friend's Porsche 1600 Super (Jim later bought it), taking the Border Motor Racing Club Trophy at Charterhall. He had graduated to a Triumph TR-3 for personal transport, using the car to win the Rest-and-be-Thankful Hillclimb in 1957.

Thanks, the early part of his career, I was (fairly!) familiar with. What was new to me was the hillclimbing in Switzerland in 65. Roger mentions 'hillclimbs' in the plural, but, so far, we seem to be discussing one event.

Incidentally, noting Ted's presence at Stoneleigh next week, I feel it appropriate to draw attention to tjhe fact that his company 'Ferret Fotographic' is the feature in the Automobilia section of the March edition of Octane. Check it out; one of the facts that you will learn is that he has 7 million motorsport pictures, all available for purchase! (Ted, hope you got my PM at end of Jan.)

It has to be said, those continental hillclimbs are the dogs doo-dahs, aren't they?

I know we all love Shelsley and Prescott etc, but by gum they're a bit mickey in comparison.

Get yourself to Doune if you haven't already been. It is the most wonderful venue for Hillclimbing in Britain.

Hallo Mr. Turner

I hope you like it ; there is a interview in the
TSR (Television Suisse Romand ) Archiv.

http://archives.tsr.ch/player/siffert-clark

The Interview was made 23.August 1965 during the
Saint-Ursanne Les Rangiers Hillclimb Race.
Jim Clark was not really happy because the car had:
to much power in the low gear`s.

Also you can see " our Joseph Siffert " and Joakim Bonnier.
Both Driver`s are also death.

When Jimmy did the Swiss hillclimb in the Indy 38, it was shaken down at Silverstone (after conversion to symmetrical suspension) by Jack Sears. One of the sister cars to the Ford owned victorious 38, which only returned to the UK for restoration 2 years ago. Jack told me it was by far the fastest car he ever drove, despite only doing 5 laps. Shortly afterwards his career was over, having jumped into the type 40, which nearly killed him with his big shunt at Abbey.

Ollon Villars 1962

Hallo Jim Clark Fans,

I found some other nice Photos of Jimmy in Ollon at the
Start of the Hillclimb.
http://www.smallcar.ch/282201/282301.html

Jim Clark stayed also many times in Switzerland as example for an interwiev for the very first
powerslide-magazin founded in Zürich.

St. Ursanne Les Rangiers 1965

Hallo Jim Clark Fans

The Foto in the attachement is from the Book :
Scuderia Filipinetti ( Ed Heuvik ).
In my opinion it was a purley presentation with demonstrations laps for Ford.
With this Foto we should know the reason of the Lotus-Ford visit in
Switzerland.
Mr. Georges Filipinetti was involved in that deal.
