Well to be honest the Audi has a wimpy hybrid system. Now the Toyota on the other hand.

Imagine if Audi could just run their Ultra without ballast.

What, their car is only 750kg with 150kg of ballast?

900 kg and 531 kw both systems. About 310 kw short.

I must admit to being very sceptical about the 150 kg of ballast in a hybrid. Hybrid systems are very heavy! In the non hybrid R18 maybe, but not in the e tron.

The modern cars will out handle the 917-30 but certainly not outdrag it!

That's what the Ultra is. He didn't say the E-Tron.

R18 ultra - 900 kg and 380 kw in that case.

at 750 kg it would be 99 kg lighter and 461 kw down on the 917-30!

917/30 Acceleration figures:
0-60 mph : 2.1 seconds; 0-100mph : 3.9 secs; 0-200mph : 13.4 seconds

Wow, I did not realise the Ultras were so ladened with ballast. That just proves how much faster these cars could be if they were properly unleashed.

What exackly is "properly unleashed"?

The teams are there to win so they do the best they can to "properly unleash" their cars within the rules they are playing by. That being the reasoning of the very unlimited Canandian American Challenge Cup ('66-'74) rules (Group 7 ???) being able to produce the fastest road racing sportscars ever.

Excerpted from http://www.wspr-racing.com/phpmember...anam_home.html :

"The Can-Am championship, which full name was originaly Canadian-American Challenge Cup, was established in 1966. There were two separate periods in its history. The first period was from 1966 to 1974. It was the most famous Can-Am era. Eligible group 7 sports racing cars were almost totally unrestricted and they were the quickest cars in the world at the time - quicker then F1 or sportscars running in the World Championship."
