So what about all those of us that gave money to Donington, and chose "Rebuild Dunlop Bridge" as what we wanted to spend it on?

I wouldn't mind buyijng the bit of dirt on the outside of the Old Hairpin and then charging a toll for every car that uses it.

I think he's got room....
From the snippet I heard of his show this morning, I'm not convinced his wife is as excited as he is about the purchase. |

He was talking about leasing it back to Donington with the lease fee going to the cancer charity.

Yep, was listening this morning. Good idea if it works. I want to know what the "other" idea was though!

I really don't know what all the fuss is about regarding the Dunlop Bridge. It's being talked about in almost mystical terms by some people. It was out of action for years before it was dismantled, the view has improved from Coppice to the Chicane (a somewhat distant view though) and the run off area has been greatly increased by its removal. Of more interest, work is being carried out on the Infield on the inside of Coppice when I went to the CSCC meeting on Sunday. A lot of earth has been moved and the infamous tunnel is being put to use at last! As to what is happening-who knows? Maybe Donington could provide a press release rather than nonsense PR involving derelict parts of the track.....

As to where it could go, it needn't be put pack over the track, it could go over the main entrance, somewhere on the perimiter road, or even at the side of the circuit as an ornament. (From memory, Mallory Park had a dummy Dunlop bridge in thier paddock for years...) |

Anyone who looks up planning applications knows They're bringing in several hundred thousand cubic metres of pulverised fuel ash from Ratcliffe on Soar Power Station to reprofile the land bounded by Craner Curves, McLeans, Coppice and Roberts Esses to make it accessible and usable once again. That's replacing the soil that was removed in the previous failed redevelopments. The hillside overlooking Craner/Old Hairpin/Schwantz will be nice, having a 2 or 3 step terrace rather than the old bank - much easier to sit on. As far as I recall it's a 12 to 18 month job. |

A lot of this PR nonsense is the fact they keep referring to the sale of the Dunlop Bridge, when actually what was for sale wasn't really the bridge at all. All that Chris Evans has brought is the fibreglass and wood panelling, and only one side of it at that. The actual structural 'bridge' part of the bridge was broken for scrap years ago. It's like saying you've brought house when all you've got is the wallpaper.
