There are a few reasons why the ELMS struggled, the calender was released so late many teams had already sorted programs, when it was announced it was uninspiring to say the least, the beneficiaries where Blancpain, GT Open and bumper grids in national series like British GT.
The WEC had an effect too, but the P2 grid was always excellent, it was the GT grid (GTE, GT3 & GTC) that failed to materialise. With the two FIA GT series no more, and details still to be heard about any replacement, it's the ideal time to relaunch the ELMS with September's calender announcement, and a claimed return to prestigious races to get people like Mike Newton back in the series. |

TDS Racing take ELMS title
TDS take the LMP2 title, IMSA take GTE-Am, and I think that GTE-Pro title should go to JMW, even though they didn't participate in the finale. Also, if I'm not mistaken, the runner ups, i.e. OAK in LMP2, JMB in GTE-Pro, and AF Corse in GTE-Am should receive an invite to 2013 Le Mans 24h. |
