How much 'straight' does a rallycross track need?
I appreciate everyone has their personal preference; personally I find long straights give big-power cars an advantage while no straight frustrates drivers into risky passes. I also appreciate that a straight into a long bend is different than a straight into a hairpin but I'm keen to hear driver's opinions about which rallycross circuit has the 'right' combination.

Most people seem to think Croft is a good modern benchmark - although some Europeans have been known to complain that the straights are a bit long for the gearing the Div.1 cars use in the ERC.
The key thing is not so much the absolute length of the straight but what comes before it - ideally a fairly tight and challenging corner on the loose. Then its not just about the number of horses you have but how you use them... |
