CONGRATULATIONS DIZ!
Has this already been posted. Anyway recognition long overdue.

Ian 'Diz' Smith, the long serving BRSCC Formula Ford 1600cc co-ordinator, was presented with the Bert Lamkin Salver at last Saturday night's Annual Awards Dinner. The Salver is presented annually to the person who has done the most to "promote the name and interests of the Club" and is named in memory of Bert Lamkin who served the BRSCC with great distinction from the 1950's through to the 1970's. In announcing the winner, BRSCC Chairman Bernard Cottrell, recognised Ian’s contribution to club formula ford racing. “He has a never ending passion for Formula Ford, which goes back many years. In late nineties, he had big shoes to fill when he took over the co-ordination of the Champion of Oulton from the irrepressible Tom Dooley. His role as co-ordinator has since evolved into taking care, together with Matt Hawkins, of all the BRSCC Formula Ford championships in the North, including the Champion of Anglesey, a circuit he is very fond of to the point where you do wonder if he works for the Anglesey Tourist Board!! Working closely with Matt, he has managed to keep the number of driver registrations for our Northern Formula Ford Championship well into the fifties, which is some achievement in this day and age. In addition, Ian also looks after our National and Triple Crown Formula Ford Championships. Affectionately known as ‘Diz’, he is a popular figure amongst the drivers, as they know he always has their best interests at heart and will fight their corner. Ian is a very deserving recipient of the Bert Lamkin salver”. |
