Donington Festival Test day 26th March
Anyone know what conditions are like up there? Is the day going ahead?

All I can say is that we had constant snow from Thursday night through to Sunday afternoon here and that there is about 3-4 inches of snow lying. East Mids airport has been closed several times whilst they clear drifting snow from the runway and there are snow drifts up to 3-4 ft deep in several places near the airport and on my regular dog walking route! Ice under foot, too.
Not surprised that the 750 meeting was cancelled and that tomorrows test day is off, too. Cold weather for the rest of the week (meaning it won't clear quickly) and the forecast for the end of the week is more snow as well! |

I'm a mile from the track.
There is a steady but slow thaw in progress for the snow. The local road is almost clear but still several cms of snow on gardens and grass. Overnight forecast is to be cold again. The icicles hanging form various parts of cars and other structures indicate how close the temperatures are to dropping below freezing overnoght and staying there during the day. I would guess that it might be possible to get the track clear but that the hope of everything between the track and the tyre walls clearing would be a little optimisitic. It might happen but I doubt it. Moreover if it is cold overnight, as predicted, the early part of the day tomorrow would likely be less than ideal. In fact the whole day is forecast to be cold anyway. Whichever way it turns out - not a great day for testing so cancellation, form that point of view alone, makes sense. The last thing that anyone would want is melt water at or under freezing temperature running across some sections of the track. ETA: I see Andy has provided a more rounded view of the overall area. Not having a dog I have not felt the need to venture far ... |
