Update I received;

The marshals campsite for this event only will be at Winterhills. This is the area behind the old Copse campsite but in front of the BGP marshals campsite.

"Race Control to Deputy Flag: black and white flag car one-one-one, black and white flag car one-one-one".... this is all I can hear.
Some good calls coming in so far this weekend :-)

If I am forced to hear the words "Post 19 to control... car so-and-so four wheels off" or "Post 29" saying the same thing again it'll be too soon...

Had a good, albeit rather lonely, day on post 11. The speed of the GT cars down the Wellington straight was quite an experience; it took me a while to get the grin off my face after the race started on Sunday.

The 4 wheels off was getting faintly ridiculous by the end of the day,; but then if you build a circuit with that much run-off, it shouldn't really be a surprise. Good to hear that penalties were being meted out though, but disappointing that so many of the drivers seem not to have paid attention since the rules were tightened up last year.

I can't understand how blokes can be happy forking out thousands of pounds to race a car and then not bother to abide by the track limit rules knowing that they will be penalized for it thus compromising their results (and those of their team mate).

You mean to "no wheels off"?

If that happens then I hope that they make any solid painted kerbing part of the track, rather than outside the track limits as it currently is. (On a runoff area such as Club at Silverstone, then I mean the painted red/white bit - no further)

Part of the fun and skill of driving is knowing when you can take the kerbs and when not (ie when wet or dry, too rough/smooth). Taking the risk may mean the difference between 1st and 2nd place for instance. To exclude the use of the kerbs will take away a "skillset" from the race equation.

Anyhow there is something rather satisfying about rattling a kerb, it is the time you know you have the apex or exit just right.

I am wholly against exceeding track limits - what I mean is getting the inside wheels on the apex kerb, and the outside ones on the exit if it is possible, or even desirable, for that corner. Not all four wheels off the circuit.

The proposed track limit changes that were to be included for 2013 were rightly criticised as being poorly worded and having the potential for much confusion ..... the MSA Race Committee went away for a re-think.

I await sight of the proposed regulation changes (if any) and will engage in the consultation process at that time.

Good point dave,

In my experience of nearly 40 years as a Marshal, The driving standards have fallen ,and now organisers and circuit owners have got to enforce the rules.

Corner cutting,(i.e.4 wheels off), has now become the "norm" for a lot of drivers trying to gain an advantage.

Is it the Play station / X box syndrome training that some of the younger drivers have grown up with!(you can switch off corner cutting on these games).

I often leave a meeting, thinking who won that race?

I agree wholeheartedly. Kerbs/rumble strips but no further. E.G. at Paddock Hill Brands Hatch you can run the rumble strip but not go beyond it and come back on. Also at Westfield clipping the inside kerb is a skill, cutting the corner is cheating.
