Kyle Petty is a bit like Eddie Jordan in F1. He says things that are ill-thought whereas if he sat down and put his thoughts in a blog or column he would've said things differently.

I kinda get what Kyle is saying, i just wouldn't have put it in those words. Danica is nowhere near the worst driver to appear in the Cup series (Kevin Conway anyone?), however the results she gets definately do not justify the amount of hype and column inches. She is a fair to middling top level race car driver. Good, but nothing special. There are probably 30 other drivers in Nationwide and Trucks who could do the same job she is doing in Cup, and perhaps better given the level of equipment. Look at Matt Crafton last week. He's 37, raced in the truck series for many years. Made his Nationwide series debut last week for Childress and ran top 5 virtually all race. Thats a driver. He could probably finish top 20 in Cup this weekend if given the opportunity. Yet Matt Crafton doesn't have go-daddy, so can't get a decent ride, and go-daddy don't want him because he's normal and 'not marketable'. Matt has to make do with a few dollars from 'Bubba's Auto Repair' or 'Molly-Mae's Meat Pies'. Danica is only in Cup because she has a great sponsor. She only has a great sponsor because she is female in a male dominated sport, good looking and will get her kit off for the camera. I don't blame Danica one bit. This is what she has to do to race at this level and she does it. Fair play to her. But deals like this will only last so long. Sooner or later she has to get results or she will start to disappear off the radar. When she does that, Go-daddy will go-byebye along with her career.

She is a race car driver, however as always compared to her peers she is rather appalling and lacking in talent.

But then compared to Jimmie Johnson most of the field is lacking in talent! By her critics own admission, and her Daytona pole, she is fast, anything else is fixable! Last edited by wnut; 4 Jul 2013 at 03:47. |

He posts on NASCAR-only boards.
I wonder how Danica'd actually do in a P2 car...might be more her style. |

She tried that back in 2007 but she was so far off the pace they pulled her from the car. The reasoning they gave is that she was too short to race with Herta and whoever else was driving the car. The funny thing is that they replaced her with Kanaan who is the same height.

Yep, Matt Craftons got a decent sponsor in the trucks but they won't back him for Nationwide cos the're already there. Matt's had lots of offers over the years to switch to Nationwide but they've all been from smaller teams where he's got little chance of winning, and without sponsors bucks he couldn't get into a Gibbs/Hendrick/Roush ride. But when Childress rang he jumped at the chance and proved what talent he has. It's drivers like Matt Crafton who deserve sponsors like Go-Daddy, but they won't get them because they're not marketable enough.

I just want to know. When is she going to get tired of her own patheticness?

He stormed off and left when the crowd here revolted on him posting 10 threads a day on all of danicas daily movements and whatever PR releases on what products she was hawking today. It was all getting a bit creepy so it was compressed into one thread for him where he could post his daily love letters and he didn't like that.

Ah, Danica bashing.
She came fifth in the IndyCar series in 2009, which was a whole lot better than a lot of people considered to be "real" race car drivers. Top-ten in the championship 7 years in a row (2006-2012 inclusive). I don't get why people consider this not being a "real race car driver", but then again, I'm not Kyle Petty. |

Kyle Petty won 8 Winston Cup races.
In her entire professional career, Danica Patrick has one race, a fuel mileage Indycar race at Motegi where Fakeio Castroneves 'accidentally' pulled over for her. Let's see Danica get those 8 Cup wins. |

Clearly he forgot everything he ever knew, and she still has a decade to go before he has any right to start criticizing her! Others maybe, Mr. Kyle Petty no! |

You seem to forget the basic fact that Kyle Petty was driving for Petty Enterprises, a team doomed since the early 1980s. They were using old crap, even the wood brothers got further ahead than they did. Kyle was getting old and should have hung up the hat. The LC, NC shop was a mess and the team finally shut down a decade late. But he still has 8 Winston Cup wins, Danican't has 1 career auto racing win. And it will probably take about 80 years to get to Kyle's record if progress resumes.
