No different at all to evaluating new control components on a small number of cars at races earlier in the year and exactly what a professional category would do to provide a complete picture of the outcomes to its stakeholders. The fuel process also signed off by all the teams - again, a sign of a professional approach. |

Come on - name me another series that does something like this?

Signed by the same teams who were winging about it afterwards? Very unprofessional |

I really fail to see what the alternative is. they tried it in a practise session. the evidence then suggested it warranted further testing.
the next option was to test it in a race setting, so they did. They shared this information all the way along, they got sign off from the teams at various points. It is much better to sort this out in a short race like Winton than in a longer and more significant race like Sandown |

They'll now have good, useable, real-world data to assess whether or not it's the way to go for the enduros and beyond. As for the other teams complaining or making noises about it after they've agreed to it DRT - well that's just normal and not indicative of a lack of professionalism - in fact it's what you'd expect - refer F1 and other high profile professional series for similar behaviour - nothing out of the ordinary here. |

The only thing I'd add to it though is that the test should be repeated at another circuit (NOT the enduro races) and reviewed at season end. Making parity adjustments before the biggest race of the year is wrong on every level. Remember what happened in 1993 - Fords were dominant all season, made a parity adjustment and they were way off the pace at Bathurst. Ultimately, Nissan and AMG knew that the first 12 months was going to be tough, that they would need at least that to get competitive. I think they've both done excellent jobs, but any parity changes should be done in the off-season with more data. Last edited by eduardo1; 29 Aug 2013 at 06:36. |

I reckon they should've tested it in more cars. Maybe 3 different cars in each race - including a couple of Holdens and Falcons.

Eduardo, Dont look as this as disagreeing but rather another side of it. We knew at the start of the year that this year efforts would be made to help the nissans and Mercs get up to scratch. This is one of those efforts. Obviusly more work needs to be done in this area |

We wouldn't have had these issues, if all 4 manufacturers were singing from the same hymn sheet. i.e, phasing out the pushrod engines last season.

I am a bit confused, I thought these modern, high tech 4 valve per cylinder engines we see in most modern cars (4,5,6,8,10,12 cylinder etc) were supposed to be more efficient than the old 2 valve per cylinder engines seen in very few road cars these days.

In a road car, where clever engine management software can improve fuel economy when idling, or trundling around town, yes. At full noise on a race track? No.

So with all the ruckus about added performance, what was the result of what it was actually intended for, added fuel economy?

Frosty's car ran out of juice across the line, the Nissans didnt. Better economy? Or bad strategy @ FPR
